Hello all!

Just wondering if anyone else is stuck at work still, if you are I feel your pain.

I am trying to make the time pass by watching Friends and listening to music to keep me awake. How are you managing it? And what are your shifts?

My shifts are 18:30pm - 06:45am :( but doing a late shift tomorrow, finish at 2am :D

Any tips on keeping awake? That doesn't involve pinching myself or slapping myself across the face? Please share so we may all benefit! :p

I'm not working but I have no idea why I'm still up at this hour. How are you lot getting away with watching Movies and TV series at work? :p

Just got home about a few hours ago from an evening with a client, drank a red bull, wont be sleeping any time soon.

Redbull would have been a great shout on my end :o what do you do?

8-8 here, not much going on atm and managed to watch 2 (really good) films during the night but will be non stop from 5.30 onwards

Daaamn thats a belter. What do you do also?

Healthcare assistant, 3 nights a week at a hospital and 1 at a nursing home, tonight I am at the Nursing home where barring an emergency, nights are generally pretty quiet. Don't get much time when I'm woring at the hospital though(depending on the ward I'm working on)

Good job to have when studying as I tend to get a lot of work done(though i sometimes find myself looking over notes I have made during the night and can't follow them at all as I was so tired), starting to get to me now though and I am deserately looking for a new job!

You get used to the hours as long as you get enough sleep, my tips for staying awake are drinking lots of tea, eating, and stick on some music if you can. :)

Good advice! ^ Thank you :) I have to try and steer clear of eating rubbish though.

Have had a doughnut and a croissant... oh well.

Blimey, sounds like that job will definitely do you in over time! I also work through vulnerable people care in a control room, but also deal with out of hours council calls, gets tiring having lots of things to do at once, then dead for hours >_<

Fair play to you for studying as well :) What other jobs are you thinking of getting into so you're not fried all the time? Retail part time or something?

Indeed, I am totally used to it now, though my sleep patterns are all over the place. It isn't really a problem for me though, I might sleep 4 hours during the day after a shift and then 12 hours the next night.

I find the key to keeping awake during the night is actually to(if possible) turn lights off or down for a bit, as my eyes do not get tired as quickly and I do not feel the need to sleep
. Music sends me to sleep if anything, I used to listen to my ipod but found mysef falling asleep often.

Yep working 7-7, i wish i could watch films! I drive for a living so no chance of that but i get to listen to naff radio at night!
Tips on stayin awake and alert are
1 1/2 hour nap before work
Avoid high caffiene drinks unless u are really struggling as the come down makes you feel x10 worst
Avoid chocolate ect as same effects as above
Fresh air
Plenty of water!
thats about it!
Anyway home time soon then bed! Yay!

Ahh see, lights keep me more awake if anything, if the lights were to dim in here I would be out like..well, a light!

Chatting on here is keeping me alert though :D

Well I have done the first module of a law degree and a few other short courses with Open Universtiy and atm I am considering where to go next with that. I would like to get back to a 9-5 tbh but then I am not sure A)If I would manage studying as well or B)How easy it would be to adjust back to a 9-5.
I am considering doing 1 night a week and getting a part-time job in retail or something. ATM I am just seeing any job I have as filler anyway tbh.

Just realised i've been doing this for nearly 3 years now:eek: Totally stuck in a rut:(

Another nightshift worker here, 18:45 - 07:15. My sleep pattern is all over the place at the moment, 3 & 1/2 hours in 43 hours! Cannot wait to hopefully sleep today!!

Aw :( dont worry, it wont be forever! You never know what's around the corner :) You'll figure it out.

At the mo its good you have the freedom and options on your side to do whatever you want in life! :) So dont get down about the ruts, they dont last forever! Once you find what you want to do it'll all click into place and you'll feel settled :) Its the adventure of experience that makes it all worth it in the end!

I'll stop rambling now :p
