[Official] HD 7970 Reviews

Think i'll ditch my 580 if the price is right, if the 7970 comes in under £350 i'll snap one up. If not i think i'll wait like above for the non-reference cooler designs to hit the market.

I've been waiting to go back to ATi ever since the 500 series nvidia cards came out, i strive to always buy the best for my money rather than have any sort of brand loyalty but i've got to admit I've grown to prefer ATi over the years.

i cant wait to get away from them, amd laptop driver support is incredibly abysmal. im not tied to one brand either i dont have preference im not a fan boy but amd havent exactly done meany favours this time round and im a first time amd user aswell.

I'l wait till they release cards with non-stock coolers - had to purchase an Arctic acellero extreme plus for my 6970 - the extra cost & time made me wish I just waited.

Besides, hopefully by them some competition will be out - driving down the prices at least a bit.

I could go cross-fire with my 6970 - but that means getting a new PSU - might have problems with heat & the general compatibility problems related to cross-fire for new games (until profiles are made)

Don't get another 6970. Just try and sell your 6970 as quickly as possible and for as much as possible and get a 7000 series card.

Im going to be going for a brand new system build, with gaming being its primary function. With these cards and Nvidia that will surely hit back with something better, how long should I hold out going for one? Will I be kicking myself if I went for a system now, when the ones that are imminent blowing the current crop of cards out the water

Because it was a paper launch. Unless these sites done video reviews you wont see many people with them yet before the 9th/10th Jan when they actually release.

I think it can be a few things:

1) Internet bragging rights
2) Some people just want the latest and greatest
3) Some people are on older cards and due an upgrade
4) Some people may need the extra RAM for higher res

I'm moving to 3x 1080p monitors for eyeinfinity and my SLI 1.5gb 580's won't have enough RAM so that's why i'm upgrading. By the time I sell the 580's the difference won't be too damaging.

For me, I have a 120hz 1080p screen for fast action games (BF3, New CS Game) and a 60hz 1440p screen for RTS and general work.

So, I want 120fps average frame rate at 1080p and 60fps and 1440p which means at least two of these new cards.

This is not about bragging rights, its about getting the best possible experience from my displays.

I was hoping that a single card would have done it but alas, not this time.

I think you need quadxfire 7970 to power that setup. How does you get on with 6970 xfire with them?

To be honest its not bad. Things are playable if a little sluggish now and then.

I really believe that 2 of these overclocked will be able to do things justice. If not then tri fire should not be a problem.
