*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Tried PvP last night for the first time, only level 13 but thought i'd give it a try.

Can't say I was overly impressed. Not sure if it's my PC but it seemed quite laggy, don't get those issues playing the game normally. managed 12 kills which put me about 5-6th in total.

I still can't get the "it's got nothing on SWG" mind frame out of my head yet though :(

PvP WZ's on Niman are laggy as hell compared to The Exiles Crystal :(
Really doesn't help when fighting all those lvl 40+ glow stick wavers :)

Firstly, loving the game. Been playing a Sentinel and Gunslinger and it really is KOTOR 3,4 and 5 as promised. Despite my original anti-multiplayer stance I've been grouping a lot for heroics and FPs and have met a lot of players I've now friended.

However, anyone having a strange problem where the first time you press play on the launcher it loads World of Tanks instead? Can't work it out. Once I quit WoT it doesn't happen again until I restart.

Sure if it's orange armour you can just change the mods.

I've a lvl 11 robe on and armour rating 84 mod in it. Same looks, but high level stats.

As such i'm farming the black talon for the other marauder gear to do the same.

This one particular robe wasn't moddable unfortunately. It was a low level echani all white hooded jobbie, that looked fantastic with my female sentinel. Been on the hunt for something with the same look but moddable ever since :)

The pvp in game is ****.

I love world pvp with The Immortals and random battles out in the world it reminds me of the good old days of mmo'ing but the BG pvp is **** like it was in wow.

The fact you can obly get gear through that **** is even worse, really tempted to afk farm (something which is a sod thing to do) as it gives all the gear but refuse to participate in that snoozefest (I snooze when I am stunlock killed whenever I bother to spawn)

Love the rest of the game is great but the pvp is unsurprisingly rubbish considering they have copied wow.

Hi

Ive never played on a PVP server before so it may sound a dumb question but i have to ask as i dont know the answer.

On a PVP server with SWTOR will the opposite fraction ie Republic or Imperial, depends what class i play,will/can they attack you when they want, even when playing the story line quests???

I understand the difference between warzones and normal story line quests

Ive only every played on PVE servers with MMORPGs

Yes they can.

But most story areas are instanced so you won't really be interrupted on an "important" quest. On side quests on the open world though you could be attacked.

To be fair though I have seen half a dozen Sith when levelling unless I went looking for a fight, you are pretty well segregated to be honest.

I was also really disappointed with Coruscant. I felt they really missed an opportunity with that planet. You know considering its the centre of the entire Republic. Instead all I got to see beyond the top level senate building area was a bunch of slums... long corridor driven slums with boring mobs and repetitive quests. The only time I got to see anything even remotely different was right before I left the planet in the Jedi Temple.

yeah Coruscant has to be the worst most uninteresting zone in MMO history :(
your description is spot on .

Thanks for the info.

it's the lack of activity that gets me tbh. Coruscant is the capital of the republic (which in universe is..really...really...big) and it must have billions of inhabitants. Nar Shaddaa is meant to be a hub of crime and dirty dealings, Dromund Kas is supposed to be the capital of the Sith Empire.

Unfortunately the scale just isn't there so they aren't very believable.

Why not have a few shady nightclubs blaring out music with animated characters in Nar Shaddaa? Why no animated and fictional advertisements on the many neon signs? It's all the little things they could have added to bring life to these areas, but didn't.

These are just a few observations from playing. The fully voiced dialogue is a great step forward for the genre, but things still have a long way to go.

TOR is more of an interative improvement to the genre rather than any real step forward.

I am quite bored now to be honest, got my Assassin in almost full Champions, done a bit of PVE but Hard mode is not really hard at all. It's just been way to easy to gear up, also raiding is bugged aswell as most of the Hard modes bosses and Nightmare mode nowhere to be seen.

I didn't rush to 50 either, i didn't have any work when the game come out but i didn't hammer the game at all.

I am not sure how long this game will keep me, hardly any world pvp even on a pvp server and to heavily instance IMO.

It is not a sandbox MMO like SWG - it isn't and never will be a replacement.

:D

Yep, and that is the problem for me, so far this game feels tiny compared to it, I am not really feeling part of the star wars universe either. :(

The warzone does get laggy and is especially annoying when your trying to get in to cover quickly in order to spring a 'cover pulse' trap.

Well, glad to know its not just my PC then :)

I think they could really change a lot of this game by giving an early mount. Lots of people say 'wow had years to develop' but this is an example of what they should have learnt from the game now. Wow mounts used to be, what 40? Now theyve got a slower version much earlier on which seriously reduces the running needed. How many times do you have to run the length of frikkin coruscant just to talk to a single quest giver multiplr times? Just one of the annoying things.

I agree with this. Running from the spaceport to the class masters takes ages when running on foot! If they are gonna make it long from one end to the other, then at least make it straight with no funny obstacles in the middle so I can AFK run and grab a drink/have a bio

At least the Empire one was all centralised around the cantina, so I could cut across from one side to the other.

There are some ridiculously huge open spaces. Per square meter, some quest hubs alone are seemingly as big as some of the cities in WoW!

I actually love the grandeur of it all. Sometimes I don't mind running for ages if only to take in the amazing scenery, but I do agree at times it becomes a real chore. I can imagine it being a real pain on alts, as you don't have that sense of wonder at the big new place to explore.

I hate this. I was talking to a few of the people in my guild and i think the general consensus was more variety in smaller chunks and on a smaller scale. Making quest hubs large just for the sake of making them large is pointless.

I'd have thought that avoiding any downtime between fighting/questing and generally being involved in actual gameplay would have been one of the first lessons taught in game design, whatever the genre.

I think we would all opt for more content but realistically, reorganising the content that already exists, minimising the scale of the zones and inserting more voiced quests would be the work of months and imho suicidal at this stage of the game. Lowering the requirements for mounts would seem a quick fix to this issue, at least in the medium term.

On another note, i heard through the grapevine there are currently 300,000 confirmed subs beyond the initial 30 days. Anyone heard anything about this?.

I'm not really saying do it now but rather it's something they could have done something about long before release. If people are mentioning long walking times now you'd have thought it would be an obvious issue during development that was easily sorted.

Oh sorry, thought you meant you hated the idea of earlier mounts, rather than the long walk times. No, I agree with you 100%, these things really should have been picked out during what was a long beta. Im quite surprised they werent.

Finished my class this morning and finally got to Ilum but I've lost motivation to play, maybe a few days off and I'll give my Sage alt a go.

Anyone else finding Promethium hard to get hold of? Saw some this morning on the GTM going for 15k each! I was lucky so get a few the other night for 1300c each...Snagged them the moment they went on the market but most of the time there is none to be had or it's far too expensive. Not gona spend 35K crafting armour that will not sell for more than 25.

Its a rank 5 metal and most people dont bother doing crew missions unless its rank 6.
