Cardiff Parking

Off topic, but you know the Santander Zero current account? There are no fees, etc, for withdrawals made abroad, but what exchange rate do they use? I presume it's just the official Visa one?

lol, most random question ever? :p

I'm pretty sure it's the VISA rate - which is as near as makes no difference the best rate Mr Average (you or me) could expect to get. It's an absolutely excellent account.

Just applied for one infact :p For somebody like yourself who is living abroad at the moment it would be hugely handy.

Yea I edited, its £16. And it's not exactly out of the way given I'm going there in the evening anyway - just wanted to know if there was a catch to the plan, like a maximum stay or something thats all :)

If you do get the train then get off the train at either Queen Street station and then go back on Central. That way to get to see the whole centre without double back.

Red Dragon centre is ok, apart from almost everyone does what you're suggesting. The RD carpark is always rammed and with only one entrance/exit, it's a traffic nightmare. You'll have to get there early. It's a pain to get to town from there unless getting the train, which is scummy. Also, there are literally a million better places in Cardiff to eat out than the RD, it's a bit of a retail eating dive, but I understand from previous posts you're happy with a microwaved prewrapped bacon sandwich as you are with an actual decent meal :)

This. There's so many nice places to eat around the Bay which are a couple of minutes walk away and have far better food and atmosphere.

There is a nice Italian in the bay. Can't remember the name but you have to go up some steps to get to it. Only issue is it gets quite busy in there sometimes.

It's sat facing opposite the actual bay so nice view

Quite busy? Jesus Christ, that's the understatement of the year.

Theres no catch, they even open the barrier at the end of the night to let the masses leave because of the queue's! My Mrs used to work in Old Orleans many moons ago and they dont really police the car park, just make sure you are buying something from what ever establishment you validate your ticket in.

Can't remember what it's called, but there is now a big car park (not multi story) behind the Vulcan on this link

I think it was £5 for 24 hours the last time I used it, much cheaper than all of the others anyway, and literally a 2 minute walk to the cinema, if not less

I wouldn't bother with Cardiff Bay unless it's summer time, plenty of nice places to eat in Cardiff itself

^This, Its still 5 bucks for 24 hours and it is only a stones throw away from SD2.

If you need somewhere to park which is close to town (5-10 min walk) and close to the Red Dragon centre (10-15 min walk) then you can park it at my place (10 guest car park spaces, although I can't guarantee they'll be free :( ) or if you'd rather be closer to the Red Dragon centre just park at the bottom of Schooner way.

Ah yes, these are a good idea... forgot about them. Much cheaper than everything else. There is one off Herbert/Tyndall Street and another off John Street, all within 5 mins distance of John Lewis

Signor Valentino's or something it's called

Thats the place, There is also Bellinies just opposite it which is quite nice (I've only been to Bellinies near the Thistle hotel in Cardiff so not sure how nice the one in the bay is)

When we went shopping during the day we parked on the outskirts and walked into the centre (about 10min walk). Couldn't tell you where exactly but it was a load of office buildings, art gallerys etc. Parking was about £4-£5 for half a day.

I just catch the train in at Queen Street... I dont drive.

It's only a 10 minute walk from Queen Street to Central.

Parking by the Vulcan is the best bet, or if you want free parking. Find a quiet side street like Gordon Road and walk in to town (takes 7 minutes to walk)
