Is it me or is anyo9ne else not that excited about the 7900 release

Which is likely due to a completely new arch and a lot of driver tweaking needing to be done.

In the mean time MOST games see a 30-40% boost, you can overclock like hell and it consumes less power while doing it.

Have you actually looked at the pricing? Only a few cards are over £500 and the OCUK Value card is £420, although OoS right now. I'd say £420 is a great price.

Having said that I'm more interested in the 7950.

Six cards £500 and over, six cards under £500. The card at £420 is the 'best' buy as it is the same as all the rest, reference, only difference is a sticker and warranty. Agree with Easy though, not worth the premium for the performance increase from the previous generation.:)

Uses less power than a 580, is more powerful than a 580, the cheapest 7970 is cheaper than the cheapest 580 3gb.

The 7970 is the fastest single GPU around and is priced competitively with the 580.

Also, there's no proof the Kepler is going to be as amazing as the green team fanboys ramp it up to be ;)

No its not the cheapest 3GB 580 is 380 quid

Overclocked the card can beat out the GTX590.

So if you don't have the money then poor you, but it does not take away from those who can afford the best.

Overclock the 590 pulls away.

Not about people can't afford one most are not daft enough to pay them prices.

If there were some hefty games on the horizon I would be a lot happier. The problem is that there aren't and for 99% of gamers (1080p single monitor or less) this card has nothing going for it.

I did some maths the other day, and the card will save you £4.74 a year over the 6970 if you game at full load for four hours a day, so even that isn't really very exciting.

Sadly there is one "unique" game coming out in 2012, the rest are all going to be sequels and rehashes.

Tbh, i'll only buy a high spec Nvidia card when I need a GPU/Hob/Oven combo. They always manage to make them power hungry cards. I like to game and think of the environment and my carbon footprint.

It will whip a 580 in some games, and it will get whipped in a few games, the card can be a cracker no doubt about it when it's oc'ed, but not at stock and certainly not the price it's currently at(along with anything else above a 2Gb 6950/560 before you all have a go).

Prices have been rising today due to demand elsewhere(OCUk's prices have stayed the same), but I have seen some brands much cheaper in stock.

Although @1080p I think it's nothing special to what we have been using for the past year, in my case there are 2 6950>70's that sit happily @1GHz, they won't be coming out in a hurry as they are faster at my res.

They cost me £400 a year ago which absolutely skelps a single 580 to hell and back and they have more vram, and at the time, they cost at least £40 less!

(I don't care if anyone thinks the extra vram matters or not tbh, it has it and that's that, it's not a debate about vram!)

Agreed. IMO both cards are bonkers over priced.

Yeah true. World is ran on money and greed doesn't help so things can only get worse. I'm really optimistic about my pessimism :D.

I'm going to leave it a week then get another 6950 and PSU or just buy the damn thing and live to regret it. We'll have to see what the public has to say over the next few days. It's going to be interesting watching all the end users results. I'm slightly geeky and excited to see what the real world thinks of the cards rather than people who will make a profit from promoting the card may that be a retailer or media as they all get a cut ;). Roll on tomorrow and the next day to see what the verdict is on these cards.

AMD can price the 7970 sky high because they hold the performance crown now for single gpu. It is only because they didn't hold the performance crown until now that they had to sell their gpu's at lower prices, which made a lot of people think that AMD pricing came out of the goodness of their heart. The same applies to their cpu division. Bulldozer fell flat on its face and this is the reason why you can now get one for super cheap and get cashback on top of that too. I say, good for AMD for releasing such a beast of a card, and I really hope this will motivate Nvidia to bring something equally as awesome to the table and soon. This being said, would I buy a 7970 at the current price? No, I would not, but that doesn't mean others won't. To be perfectly honest I am a bit annoyed by the price tag as well but I can understand why the price is so high at the end of the day.

It's not even like buying an expensive new card offers much now, improvements to graphical quality are getting less year after year and we're mostly playing console ports, wheres the value in another 50 fps when something a third of the price can play above 60?

If image quality was starting to improve towards ray tracing and movie effects it might be a worthwhile upgrade but instead progress has actually stagnated it seems.

Why is everyone so negative about the price? If you don't want one, don't buy one. It's the fastest single card solution available, is more expensive than the current fastest single card because of this. If you can't afford one or don't see them as VFM, don't buy one! Half the problem is the $-£ exchange rate. Also OCUK can only buy at the price they're given. They need to make their cut too you know!!

Having checked other sites OCUK are in the ballpark for pricing along with everyone else. Don't moan about something OCUK have no control over.

If the exchange rate eases and some concrete Kepler info appears or Nvidia reduces prices of the 570/80/90 prices won't change. Prices may also reduce if AMD hardly sell any and retailers are reporting back saying 'We've got dozens of unsold cards, prices are too high!'

Gibbo, I appreciate you may not be able to say, but have you sold many or got much stock left? I'd expect more sales at the end of this month too!

The 7950 is the much more interesting card, roll on next month. The 7970's are too expensive, but high end cards always are always have been. The only way you can buy one is if you literally don't care how much it is. Even then it doesn't make a great deal of sense.
