** ATI 7970 NOW IN STOCK & AVAILABLE!! **

Guys are all of these 7970's essentially the same cards? ie I've read that Gibbo have managed to OC the arse of his one but is that due to any desogn differences in the one he's been playing with against any of the other brands?

In other words, it there really anything to justify spending £520 on one or £420 on one (a powercolour from a competitor) right now?

they are all made by Sapphire and the others then stick their branding/graphic sticker on them - sapphire might even do that for them. For reference cards this has always been the case.

Is the pre-order price on the Asus card a joke or something?

£559.99 for a card that is identical to the Club3D model bar the bios?

They are already over priced at £460 (ideal max at £450) so £559 is just taking the mick.

I think the OCUK one for £420 is a great buy if OCUK will handle warranty claims fully. Cos I'd hate to get an unknown brand that RMAs to Mongolia or something

It is great at that price (I just paid that - not saying anymore).

Seriously though the Asus card is just stupidly overpriced (here there and everywhere).

The only difference at the moment is the bios which is easy enough to flash.

Why so much for an ASUS? and already a price hike when other E-tailers are reducing prices...

Very dangerous game to play, yes some people may still pay £559, but I would bet a lot more would shop else where.

Not overly happy about the price, but went ahead with a Sapphire.
New build has been using a trusty 5970 borrowed from a previous build, but has more or less been limited to 1920x1200 recently, so I'm hoping a 7970 with it's 3GB will help a 30" monitor along for the time being.

Thanks. do they have their own BIOSes though? I thought I'd buy the ASUS as i recall reading that the BIOS allowed a decent OC but am restricted buy its price and weary of buying one from another brand that doesn't OC very well.

(oh and ignore my sign - I'm on an old HD 6450 :D )

ASUS is also 3 year warranty - better resale value etc (as are Gigabyte and now Sapphire).

Pfft, you seen your system.. You should give me your cards and go buy yourself a new shiny one :p

I woke up this morning and thought i could put both of them on the members market'. Outside chance i may get £400 for them.

Still won't be enough though. :p

the ETA for that card is nearly 3 weeks away though, its not really worth taking into account atm as the price gouging on branded cards might have calmed down by then
