I'm planning on building an office PC, and I was wondering what would be best. It would be used for mainly MS Office, and occasionally light video and image editing. Thanks

Using a quad will reduce the amount of time it takes to edit a video so I'd go with that as the other two options are both dual core.

Sorry to hijack thread, but RJC can you help me with some problems, can't seem to PM you. Check my recent threads please? Thanks

Will do, give me al little time to read through :)

Thanks, I spose it all comes down to whichever one is cheapest - my mate says he can sell me a C2Q + Mobo

Indeed if your on a budget and then system is at a good price :)

The C2Q is a q6600. Looking at benchmarks, I really don't know. For just everyday office/internettings, would the i3 be best?

EDIT: i3 2100 looks best as the q6600 only wins on video editing/rendering, and even then, not by much. I'll go with that unless anyone (except cleeecooo - it's his q6600) has anything else to say

Done a couple of build below, one would allow you to install a K series cpu and allow you to overclock, and he second one would not allow anyoverclocking.

Use "CMDOUBLE" in the voucher box and save £20 on the case and PSU.

I did not add hard drive or dvd drive, you can use on board graphics via the HDMI port on the motherboard.

Thanks. Just to check, Windows 7 Home Premium (Retail) won't have any problems with being put on a new PC (formatting the old PC's HDD ofc) will it?

EDIT: I also have an old ATi HD 2400 in an unused rig. What's better? That or Intel's HD 2000?

Nope, you be fine. You might need to use the the automated telephone activation if its fails to do it over the internet

I would probably use the onboard GPU, this will be fine

+1 for the i3 option - it performs a good deal better than a Core 2 in lightly threaded scenarios and when running multithreaded apps it still holds its own.

Plus, it also gives you SATA3/USB3 connectivity options and the ability to upgrade to sandy bridge quad cores or Ivy Bridge CPUs in the future as well as use DDR3 RAM (which is now much cheaper than DDR2 which most Core 2 boards use).

One thing I would suggest adding is a small and cheap SSD to install Windows and your key applications on (something like this). This will allow for very fast loading of the OS and the applications, plus everything tends to "feel" much smoother.
