Looking forward to reviews of the 7970 from members as i never fully trust
the ''official'' review sites around the net.
Hope the new owners are enjoying them. Can we keep this thread for performance related discussions of the 7970.

Spelling issues here, or just a very strange statement. :)

7970 typooooh ;)

Going to be running some BF3 Eyefunity comparisons against my HD6970 at various in game settings so I should be able to load something up there.

I have found the Campaign level "OP Sword Breaker" gives me similar results to Multiplayer on my current setup, therefore I will be using that for cosake of consistancy and repeatability without mucking up other peoples games online.

I may also throw up some Arcania results as well as suprisingly my HD6970 really struggles in this game at Eyefinity resolutions (~25fps Avg).

And can we keep Nvidia vs ATI garbage out of this thread pls, regardless of price issues it's good to see new toys in action :D

One thing to point out - Techpowerup only achieved a stable overclock of 1075mhz on the core at stock cooling and voltage so I doubt every card is going to be hitting crazy speeds

Yeah please, can we all just act as graphic card enthusiasts AKA geeks and enjoy the new hardware :D.

Why not just call it

********* OFFICIAL I HAVE A 7970 CARD AND YOU DO NOT THREAD *********

:p :D

Im sticking with my 5850 for now.

I would be very interested in members reviews also. I am very excited to see the results for BF3 with "everything" on full and no turning off AA. My setup is 1920x1080 so if any kind gent or lady would let me know what FPS they are getting and if any juddering/crashing/problems (maybe down to being new) I would love to know.
Money is burning a hole in my pocket but I just dont want to jump in.

Be good to see this. I have 6850 (@6970 bios). Would be good to see some comparison. Especially for BF3 Medium Settings and Dirt 2 or 3.

Got mine yesterday - have to say its an awsome card and despite the negativity (EDITED DUE TO POLITICAL SENSITIVITY) it's' well worth it.

Pee's on my 2 x 5850's - whilst using less power so I am well happy

3dmark11 score at stock is 7659 - overclocked to stock max 1125/1575 gave me 8919.

Drivers out of the box are early pre-release by the looks of it - It all I used for my preliminary testing (8.9.21.0.0) - Think theres newer ones available somewhere (cat 11.12)

In terms of gaming - I had a quick shot on BF3 (bear in mind this was with a conflicting driver as my previous nvidia card drivers screwed things up AND these are drivers out of the box) - Ultra mode @ 1920x1200 gave me a minimum of 39FPS - average of 50FPS and highs of 80FPS - A good result taking into account these are the first drivers lol.

No crossfire so it was buttery smooth and STRAIGHT away I noticed the difference between the previous nvidia card and this one (in terms of quality) even though I was using exactly the same graphics settings.

I've always said - Nvidia is more about performance whereas ATI are more about quality and can tell the difference between the two cards in all my previous setups.

Well happy :) :) - Alhamdulillah.

So people ask for no Nvidia vs ATI comments(Which I fully agree) and then as part of someones comments he starts off by trying to inflame people.. Priceless

:) - Edited - Heres some pics for ya to make up for it lol:

Seems I'm using older drivers than everyone else which is probably why my 3dmark11 score is lower - be warned guys, out of the box drivers are much older than 11.12's, and if you have an nvidia card already with the latest drivers be prepared to rebuild your system!! 3dmark11 was giving me scores of 4000 until I rebuilt (thank you nvidia drivers)

Agreed what a numpty indeed. see only numpties pay them prices atm ;)

Anyway I'm interested in power consumption, as it would be one of the main reasons I upgrade.

My system is great, fast, plays anything at max settings, but man it drinks the juice :D

shock as you are changing one brand to another and the drivers cause problems. wow who would have thought.

thanks mate, think the only thing left to cover is noise of the fan.

It's VERY quiet in normal 2D useage (i.e. windows) and even gaming/3d benching whilst at stock clocks it was still VERY quiet. however, as soon as I started overclocking - the fan became audible - but still bearable (bearing in mind I have watercooling geared towards noise reduction).

HOWEVER - I performed a quick test - set the fan manually to 100% - HOLY POOPOOKAKA! - Now thats loud!!. Sounded like i'd just turned the vac on next to my ear!.

Bring on the waterblocks already!!
