I dunno, I'm kind of getting used to them now, its a wake up call that's for sure.

You should expand on that perhaps?...
I've done an absolute tonne of research into boilers over the past few months and currently have a Viessmann sat downstairs waiting to be installed. From what i have read and heard, Viessmann are the absolute daddy of CH boilers. Honestly, anyone who is looking at buying a new boiler, stump up the extra cash and get one of these beauties!
They cost a bit more, but are built to last and have great features.
My setup will be a 35kW combi with a sub mounted mixer kit, all controlled by a weather compensated controller. Basically I get 2 different temps of water for the heating, one for radiators upstairs, and a lower temp for UFH downstairs, and both of these temps are independantly varied according to the outside temperature, so as it gets colder outside, the water in the heating system is increased. -- Makes for a very consistent and comfortable temperature, and adds upto 15% to the effieciency of your system over standard thermostatic controls! Other manufacturers are also offering weather compensation, but not in the same league as the Viessmann offering.
They are much more popular on the continent than they are here though - but over there people tend to get a bit more serious about their heating and hot water. Viessmann don't even market/sell their more expensive boilers here because people in the UK don't see the point in spending that much money on heating...
My boiler is condemed also due to the elbow in the flue. I fixed the issue by removing the red "condemed" sticker on the front![]()
I don't understand how BG can do this, switch off the gas and walk out. What did they think we were going to do for cooking/heating?
Did you know that you can actually fit your own boiler including doing the gas work? Not that I would recommend it to anyone, but it's not illegal to do so in your own home.
edit: You have to be competent to do the work! But there is no specified competency assessment as far as i am aware.
ive rang them and they said its upto you what you get upto in your own home though they did think it was stupid..
i said the only way people would be found to be competent or not would be when they blew them selfs up and he agreed.
its also illigal for a tradesman to sign off any work done by a DIYer
anyway, i think you've been smoking something and you've got it in your head its ok to work on gas, that anyone who can change a light bulb can also work on gas..
you're getting mixed up, ring gas safe your self and ask them if they think its ok for you to work on gas..
If its checked and safe then its legal.
I recently came across the work of a 'gas safe' fitter. A gas heater in a workshop kept going out, reason was that the idiot had connected up the flue and intake the wrong way around - a mistake that quite easily could have killed. They are not Gods and just because they pay to have a licence doesn't mean that they are competent.
checked by who? some monkey who owns their own home and has read a few books
By a gas safe registered company.
they arent supposed to sign off DIY work
they arent supposed to sign off DIY work

the diy'er may think he is competent but he has done no training, why would anyone sign off a DIYers gas work.. it may look ok but unless he goes through training how could he show anyone he is competent?
Riddor report him.
