Want a cheap wifi usb transmitter for the htpc, although our internet is alow would be nice to send files between the htpc and games pc.

What is recommended?

As said, usb only, small as possible

Yes, i was looking at edimax, i should have added black, its htpc so will be visible.

Is it realistic to send dvd rips over wifi? I guess blu ray is a definite no?

300Mbits/s thats about 35MB/s, hmm not dire, is 300MB/s obtainable?

If your looking at high speed stuff have you looked into the powerline kits? Im forever recommended them. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-017-OK&groupid=46&catid=1604&subcat=

And black you say.. Well i own this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-193-NG&groupid=46&catid=1600&subcat=2033 would prefer a wired connection personally

What is that home plug? I can deal with that in white. But i have never seen it before, if it doesnt need a router that would be ideal, tell me more!

You plug it in next to your router ( or even modem ), Plug a Ethernet cable from the plug to the router/modem and then plug your other plug in next to computer and put a cable from the plug into ur Ethernet port. Someone will tell you if im wrong. It uses your house wiring to transmit a signal about. And the beauty is you can plug it into any room in your house

I own that one too, had no prblems with it, can't really tell whether it is fast as our internet is shocking at uni. :)

As i say, no issues what-so-ever

Probably not as dire as my internet speed! This is mainly for pc to pc data transfer.

Are all these much the same speed wise?

Any wired connection will beat any wireless connection hands down unless ur prepared to spend a ton of money on some super wireless network which isnt needed :)

Ok i have to say i didnt even think about wired, it is doable i think too.

I have no clue about networks, can you just plug an ethernet cable between two pcs and it works?

Im also still very interested in homeplugs, for home plugs do you have to have the router plugged in if you only want pc to pc?

I guess i have a few options.

I aint the most clued up man about what exactly you can do with them. You may be better posting a thread in the networking section and someone there may be able to provide you with some stats and info on them

ok maybe i will post in the network section, im not sure of the difference between crossover and network

I have an edimax tiny tiny tiny thing in my pc, its like 5mm bigger than the usb port, wireless n 150mb/s. In the same place my laptop can sync at 100mb+ it gets 10-54 and drops out. (I dont use it, its purely in case i need wifi from a machine/laptop that someone asks me to fix.

Homeplugs are good, ethernet is better. 100mb ethernet still takes a while to transfer a dvd rip, and wifi is god awfully slow (the theorectical speeds are nothing like actual throughput)
