Earning Money from home, any ideas?/no "get-rich-quick" schemes

If you can spare some time in the early hours they would be well spent at bootfairs. There are many bargains to be had, particularly on items you are prepared to spend some time cleaning up and maintaining. Then advertise the items for free in the local paper or on eBay.

You won't make huge amounts but you'll soon learn what will give you a decent profit.

I fill in surveys for Myvoice, works out at £1 for every 10 minutes you fill in forms i.e. minimum wage but without the tax man. Tried Ciao! too but I kept getting screened out early on (and even late on more frustratingly!), where I seldom do with Myvoice.

One of those sites that actually works? :o

This sounds like a start. i'll have a look into that - 'm used to filling in forms anyway:)

Couple off the top of my head which have the potential to earn a reasonable amount of money as in independent contractor type thing would be commission-based phone sales or legal/medical transcription. The former sucks the big one because of having to generally deal with retards but the latter can be great especially if you hook up with a good client.

Otherwise there's the whole web design/coding stuff but if you're a n00b you'd have to put in a fair bit of work first to get to a level where you aren't being undercut by Indian/Chinese 13 year olds.

There's a fella on the forums who works from home, I think it might be hurf-durf (sp?). He probably has some good advice.

I work from home, however I don't think any of my advice would be useful as I run an online store selling somewhat "niche" products that I manufacture myself. :p

Wasn't there a company, like Argos, who would pay you to do their call center work but from home?

They would install a little system that gave access to their internal systems and you could just log on and do the shift from home?

I'm sure I recall something like this that would be perfect for working at home.

Only legit one I can think of is the google adsense on blogger. You need to make friends with people who just click on each others links. Dont click your own or you will get banned.

Haha, my friend got others to click his Ads... he was soon to reach the payment threshold, and then his account was disabled.
You could learn some skills from home, such as programming and web development? You could then do some freelance work from home.

matched betting
buying stuff from China & resell (you need to find a niche and decent suppliers)
Go to bootfairs early and buy stuff for selling on ebay
affiliate marketing (best if you can refer people into it so they earn for you)
researcher for 'any question answered', those sort of services.
professional poker player?
homemade movies?

matched betting has somewhat finite potential - though if you've got all that time at home you might as well give it a go and get some cash in.

As for realistic money making stuff - if you've not got a skill you can use to actually be employed by someone to work at home then perhaps, as suggested above, you could explore selling stuff online. Even if it is just a case of reselling **** from China.

To be totally honest the government should be giving you a greater amount so you don't have to work - you already have a job, it's called being a full time carer.

Before anybody starts crying about "benefits shouldn't be that high"

1. I work & pay allot of tax - I'd gladly it go to carers.

2. People need to factor in how much money he is SAVING the tax payer, if he walked away from his commitments the government cost of care would be considerably higher by a massive factor than even a theoretical 20k wage PA paid directly to him.

3. I doubt many of us would be able to do 24/care - it's harder work than 90% of jobs.

My father has been looking after my mother for most of my life due to her illness - it's amazing how little support carers receive & I'm more than happy to pay tax to go towards helping all cares along.

As has been said, lots of call centres do work with employees at home. On their side they don't need to pay for heating/lighting and can keep the desk for another FTE, their only expenses are the phone routing / laptop you'd need.
