Guys,

I am going to be building a HTPC and I will be fitting a Blue-Ray optical drive. The HTPC will be going downstairs to be used on my Samsung HDTV. The TV has 2 x HDMI ports and 1 x VGA PC port.

My question is this, to get Hi-Def content from the Blue-Ray player to the TV will I be able to use the VGA port? I cant remember if VGA supports HD or not. Or will I have to use the HDMI port?

The only problem is my HD5570 does not have a HDMI port.

Any advice would be great.

You can get DVI-HDMI cables, you are aware that you cant get audio from VGA/DVI connection.

edit..don't suppose theres a DVI-HDMI adapter in the GFX box?

No, AKAIK you'll have to use the HDMI port for HD. A DVI connection has the same quality as HD (it just lacks the ability to carry audio), but VGA is an analogue signal compared to the digital signal of HMDI :)

EDIT: Looks like stulid beat me :p

depending on the tv, you might find the VGA socket does not support 1920x1080. also i believe the card needs to be HDCPcompliant, so if it is, and only has a VGA socket, then i cant see why it wouldnt. but if you have a DVI port on the gfx card then you might need a DVI-HDMI adaptor.

No you wont, only a HDMI port will give you audio. You will have to find a way of connecting the onboard sound output from the motherboard to a Hi-Fi amp/TV

It looks like the graphics card supports full HD so my mate is going to give me his DVI-HDMI cable.
All i need now is a blu ray player to fit in the HTPC. They're not that cheap are they? :p

I have also read some Blu-Ray players are riplocked. Can anyone offer any advice as to which Blu-Ray players to look out for?
