game in serious trouble?

Fine, they're overpriced and a few of you have unfortunately received some bad customer service from them. I've had great customer service from pretty much every video game retailer I've ever visited - maybe it's not so much their customer service as your people skills that are lacking?

As for being overpriced, that's fine too - they can charge what they like, if you don't want to pay those prices you can bugger off and buy elsewhere. You can even cry all the way down the high street about how unfair their prices are, if you really want to.

Doesn't stop the fact that they're a huge chain of stores, a common sight in every city high street in the country, and their going into administration would mean the loss of thousands of jobs and millions in high-streeet revenue. Explain to me why that's a better option in the current climate than you not having your whiny pride affronted.

The only reason I'll be sad to see it go is because I spent many hours every weekend in there as a teenager.

About the only use it has these days is to hide in when you've been dragged out shopping with the other half.

Only supermarkets and large chains like John Lewis and HMV can support games it seems now.

Even then, they're fighting a losing battle in retail.

John Lewis doesn't really stock games though and HMV is falling apart, games there are also over priced and wont shift, their music section in almost all stores is in decline rapidly and the dvd section is starting to fade. HMV are having to look into "technology" area's to try and save the shop but buying headphones or a mac from there seems a little silly.

Oh and the Game situation has another thread in pc games but the general feeling is it's a sinking ship because it decided it's core audience would be parents and people who do not know better :(

Reason: They are overpriced, and the staff are exceedingly unpleasant. They haven't even tried to compete with the internet threat via better service etc

This, they are so overpriced it makes me rage sometimes. Where possible i prefer to have the game on disc instead of steam etc.

Ive had more than enough of games not appearing on digital retailers before "real" ones get them.

Sure the lay-offs are bad, but its their own fault (Capitalism after all, deal with it), this should teach them that frankly if you dont adapt, you die, simple as that. Hell thats less a rule of capitalism and more a rule of general life.

I walk in and browse occasionally, I found Kings Crusade for about 89p last year!

I will be sad if the go under, as I am when any of the major retailers closes. That is a lot of people out of work.

And we have, why do you think they're in trouble?? :D

The worst of it is their pre-owned section, in my opinion. Very often you can find the same game, new, cheaper than it is in the preowned section. I mean, wtf?

Yes!! Once i picked up both the new one and the pre-owned one and showed it to someone that worked there, their reaction was to shrug their shoulders, lost sale there

Never had a problem with staff in game, always found them to be helpful. They are more expensive than buying online but then you get what you are buying instantly.

If they closed I would miss popping in to check out all the old PC games which can be had on the cheap, always love seeing Theme Hospital, Sim City and Stonghold for sale and always contemplate buying them 'for old times sake' never do though!

Should be a good punt share wise for a short term bet. Hope they bottom at around now, watch them crawl back up a bit in the next few days while people do the same, then sell.

Could easily double that.
