game in serious trouble?

It's their pre-owned guff that offends me.
Sell a relatively new launch game second hand at a few pence below the price of the new one so people buy that instead of the new version.
Thanks for hurting the industry just as much as piracy.
In some cases I have seen pre-owned games MORE than buying it new.

To be honest I've always found the staff in Game to pretty good, prices aren't bad if you don't expect "Internet" prices, this is after all this is a High St operation.

the shopping centre in Stoke has two games stores practically identical, next to each other. I am convinced that this is a key factor in their decline.

I always used Gameplay before they were owned by Game. They had brilliant customer service, reasonable prices and quick delivery times. However it was never the same after they moved their depot from Leeds, they can't even get my name right on the packaging despite it being correct on their system.
I always found the CS inm my local Game store to be top notch. They are all avid gamers themselves and knowledgeable about their products. Will be a shame if they go under.
Gamestation on the other hand.... Eugh! Dirty!

You say Failbuster, but in the scheme of things....the UK arm of Failbuster is actually profitable and doing okay...Game/GS is not. In fact, I would say that both Game and Gamestation had healthy brands before the merger.
The downfall of Game was buying Gamestation. "Why compete when you can buy your competitor" they thought, but the main competition was online and supermarkets, did they not see that one coming and take their eye off the ball?
For parents and grandparents they're perfect because they can ask for 'that new star wars game' and the Game staff will know what they mean. My local Game store was mobbed before and after Christmas along with the Gamestation in the same shopping centre.
Second hand games haven't really been bad for them TBH. They get the full amount paid by the buyer so even if the price is less than the price of the new copy by only a few £££ they're likely to make more profit from that game than a new game. I doubt Game themselves make more than £2-£3 (maybe less) per new game sold. If they then offer £30 (example) for a second hand copy, then sell that for £35 used they could be doubling their profit.
I don't buy from them very often but I know my ex wife buys quite a few games there as she just traded in 20 games or so and has £170 on her game card!! They also get used a lot for birthdays and christmas for game cards.
I can see them closing a lot of shops that don't make money or where there are shops close together, but even if they go into administration someone will snap them up pretty quickly.

True, but when the company appears to be mis-managed right from the top and those working in the stores are busting a gut, trying their best and having to deal with the general public on a regular basis (and those who have worked retail know what I mean by this) you have to feel for those whose jobs are under threat.
