Thinking about a little excursion, around the start of February, mainly because I feel like I haven't had a proper holiday for a while and starting to get the itch to get away again. Usually I will do some research, find a location that interests us, and end up heading somewhere a little obscure and doing all the leg work myself. On this occasion my GF will be recovering from an operation so wanting to pick something as easy, and relaxing, as possible, hence the all inclusive. Ideally wanting somewhere warm. Places that are popping up at the moment are Greek Islands, Cyprus, Egypt and Gran Canaria. Are there any others worth looking at that aren't too far away?

I guess my main questions are, are these holidays actually worth it, as we are only planning on going for a week tops, are there going to be hidden costs when we turn up, and are there any recommendations on who to book through?

We're going to Rhodes in May (2x adults).

£1400 gets us a 5* Hotel, All Inclusive, "Superior" Room upgrade with balcony/sea view for 7 nights including flights, transfers and a late checkout from the room.

/edit - Its also an adult only hotel.

IMO all inclusive in Europe is a waste of money. I can understand in places like Brazil, Mexico and Jamaica for example as they are not the sort of places you want to be walking around at night looking for somewhere to eat. In Europe its fine, restaraunts are plentyful and varied from cheap to expensive and you can get out and about and see the place and sample the local cuisine.

Although having said that, I can appreciate that your other half after having an op might not want to move around too much. First Choice have been pretty good when I have been through them and they seem to do all inclusives all the time now judging by their adverts. When I have been on all inclusives before, there wasnt any hidden costs at all.

The problem is, the GF will effectively be one handed for the trip. If we were to go away I would want things to be as simple as possible, hence looking at the all inclusive options.

erm, that's really expensive. Could've gone to the Caribbean for not a lot more.

Went to Playa Del Carmen/Mexico last Sept. 2 weeks, AI, 5*. Together with my other half it came to around £2100. Fantastic area, sea was wonderful and warm, white beaches. Really relaxing. If you can stomach a 10hr flight i'd recommend the area to others. Where we stayed it was a closed gated community/ area so no one could get in without going by security. I'd like to go back in the future with a group of friends.

Not booked it yet, i keep "window shopping" for better deals :D

/edit - Thats the price for both people by the way, not per person!

Were not going to bother doing anything but AI since the amount you save is normally negligible (between AI and SC), when you take into consideration spending money etc.

It is all about choosing a good hotel. We are not the type to sit around the pool all day etc and always find that AI works really well.

Were away to Egypt in 2 weeks, and then Ibiza in May. Been to Turkey a few times AI and never had any issues.

Really depends on the holiday you want and budget, but would recommend reading reviews before booking. We normally ignore the ones saying there is little choice on food, this is normally people who are expecting Sausage and Chips or Full English breakfasts, which is not the culture of the country.

Greek Islands,
Not in February.

All inclusive will be harder than eating out in my opinion, given that the meals in AI are generally buffet service which is pretty tricky to do with one hand.

Well my sister went to this place in Mexico last year and they have optics by the bed. She can lay in bed and pur herself a measure one handed. :D

Got a really good deal last year - a week in Tunisia all inclusive for £300 in July. Lovely hotel. They had enough entertainment/organised trips etc to keep you busy or to enable to you stay at the hotel in the daytime. Hotel backed onto the beach. Can try and find the name of it because can't remember it at the moment.

Once we were there everything was so so cheap - it was hard spending all the money (as they don't let you bring the money back into the UK).

I went to Benidrom last Sept. It cost me £500. That included flights, coach transfer to and from hotel, and 10 days all inclusive at a Hotel. The hotel was great and I could not fault the food or service.

Yup, I stayed in the Riu Cancun and there were optics above the fridge with rum, vodka and two other spirits, can't remember what they were. They were refilled daily as was the fridge which had bottles of pepsi, diet pepsi, 7up and water. All inclusive in Mexico was deinitely worth it imo.

edit, found a pic that someone took while staying there:

Me and the Missus did 9 days in Fuerteventura last year, All Inclusive, for just under £500 for the two of us. More than worth it, even if you just use the AI for breakfast and daytime drinks. Fuerteventura was lovely, and unspoilt. Bit like Majorca was in 1980, before the package tour industry really kicked off. Pretty much all we spent all week was a couple of meals out, and a few drinks out, and a hire car for 2 days to see the island.

Was so good, we're off back there in March.

Any idea what the hotel is called? Me and GF looking at going away in September and been looking at Fuerteventura.

sunsave.com look pretty cheap, not used them though so can't say whether they're any good or not. I'm also looking at an AI deal for around March 1st.

Seems to be betweem 275 and 375 for a 3-4* AI deal on one of the Canary islands flying from Bristol/Cardiff. Anyone reccomend somewhere in particular?
