Anyone adopted a middle name?

I've contemplated it on several occasions, in memory of my grand father who was sadly taken long before his time was due. He was one the most prominent male in my upbringing. I presume it's a relatively easy process? Deed poll and then converting things like drivers licence, passport etc if and when their renewal arises?

Or, is it all a bit pointless and somewhat of a faff in the long run? Opinions? :)

I tried searching but the forum doesn't allow the word 'name' to be searched :p

Surely if you're asking whether it's pointless, it is? If you really wanted to do it, then there you wouldn't even consider it being pointless :p

I've got this nice idea about calling any son I may have in the future "Aiden" after my great uncle who now rests in Belgium after being shot out of the sky while manning the top gun of a Lancaster. I was supposed to be named after him, but apparently I just didn't look like an Aiden!

That's enough for me really, my name was given to me by my parents and that's that. No need to change it to acknowledge how much I value someone else.

Agree with the points made here. Plus I already have two middle names so having a third would be a little bit greedy. :p

Is there really any need to go down the legal route? It's still effectively part of your name. If it matters that much to you, just ask people to adopt it in future.

In answer to your original question, of course. I think we all probably mull such banalities at one time or another. I am, however, satisfied with the name that was given to me: Kwijibo.

Simple change of name by deed-poll and once its finalised just update your records for everything via their name change procedure. Shouldn't be much hassle, most can be done on-line or with a quick form filled in.
Its your name after all so if your wanting to add one in in memory of a loved one i don't see the problem.

also, if it's simply a middle name you won't need a new Drivers license and passport iirc.
