Hey guys,

The local tyre fitter has a choice of two tyres apart from the linglong equivalent and I've decided pretty much on the sport contact 2's at £75 each fitted.

My other choice is to go to camskill and get something like Toyo T1-R's which I had on my 220 turbo but I read bad things about them! Soft sidewalls being one of them.

I don't drive my current car hard at all (vw tdi 205 55 16) but after reading an article online tonight regarding tyre age and other things I was horrified to see that my rear right tyre was manufacted 03 01 :( Its also got cracks in the tread which makes me amazed that it passed its MOT.

Could you give me your opinions on the sport contact 2's? The other option was a Kumho KH31 but I'm not all that keen when its £65 for those or £10 more for what I believe to be a far better tyre.

Many thanks :)

My car isn't powerful, Sportka, but i have these all around and can't complain about them. I get no under-steer in the pouring rain and can brake hard without the abs kicking in.

I have conti sport contact 2's on my Mk2 Fabia VRS. They seem fine, but you can get a bit of tyre roar at speed.

I believe these are now nearly 2 models old, why not get the newer, almost certainly improved ones?

I have these on my mondeo, same size, and i find them very good in wet and dry. Much better than the toys, which i have used too, cant comment on the Kumho though.

On my car (Astra vxr) the CS2 tyres were crap, poor grip and loads of tyre noise. I now use CS3s on my car and the difference is night and day much much better grip and quieter, phenomenal in the wet as well. Obviously the performance will vary car to car due to weights etc...

Cant get CS3 in 205 55 16, size has lots of good tyres but not the best tyres available, but the CS2s seem to be the best, cant get the new F1s either, left with the GS D3s.

Indeed I did try and look for better but there doesn't seem to be a lot! Had toyo's on my 220T as mentioned and I found them ok, but then - I never drive particularly hard.

Eitherway I want to get both rears changed on friday, one of them is ok, the other has low tread, is cracking and apparently as I mentioned made in 2001.

Can't find the new ones in my size mate :(

You'd probably be better getting the sport contact 3 as far as i'm aware there isn't a massive difference though- should be available for a very similar price (that price is very good btw, I just paid £110 for a 17" 225 45 sport contact 3). The T1R is a cracking tyre too but the continental has better wet weather grip in my experience

My new Octy vRS came with SC2's on from the factory last March.
Still going strong and do the job well - can't really fault them.
I'll replace them with SC5's when they eventually need replacing - but I do like the brand and will be sticking to them.

I had the same trouble with my Focus, ended up with the CS2's, seem fine and are a great improvement in the wet over the previous no-name crap, I'm no speed demon, but hardly a slouch either! Haven't had them long enough to comment on wear, but I take grip over wear anyway!
