Hi All,

Considering a monitor upgrade from my 24" Dell 1920 x 1200...no real reason to upgrade, its one of the early ones, all works spot on...it just feels dated and I fancy a change.

I fancy the Samsung 27" 120hz, but not sure if I'll be happy with 1080 and if I were to go Dell U2711 would 2560 x 1440 push the 6970 too much?

Monitor is only used for gaming and browsing etc.

Options and advice gratefully received.

I also looked at going from 2407 to something else

Bought a 3008 30" 2560 x 1600 , light bleed issues so returned it after trying 3 different units

Then tried a 2707 27" 1920 x 1200 which I settled on, nice size nice res

I would always try for a decent 16:10 screen ( I use my PC for more than games / movies)

Good luck with your quest

Have you considered the Hazro HZ27WC?

I too have 2x Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFPs (A04 revisions) and upgraded recently to the Hazro 27" (2560 x 1440).

Awesome screen TBH (prolly best I've ever seen/used). However, Hazro are a shocking company to deal with...my first one had black matter behind the screen and upon receiving the replacement 2 (yes TWO) months later this one has a dead pixel and is the non-glass. I paid for the glass so not impressed but can't be arsed to go through the hassle of RMA again...

I will say this - I prefer the glass version although it is very reflective screen.

Still the best monitor I've ever used despite this!

Thanks for the input.

I do think I'd miss going below ****x1200 however good 120hz gaming is.

@HughyT... It's never bothered me in the past, but as input lag is a term I see a lot on here have you experienced any on the Hazro?

I think i would be drawn to the Dell u2711...although pricey, I've always been happy with Dells build quality. Plus same screen as the iMac 27" I'm told.

I just upgraded from Dell 2407WFP (A04 revisions) to a Dell U2711. And upgraded for same reasons as you want to upgrade.

Very very similar screens. You'll basically get a bigger and better screen than the 2407. I found grain to be on both screens slightly more noticeable on the U2711. I had the 2407 for over 3 years, bought second hand. Found great deal at Dell and bought the U2711 for around £460 last week.

Otherwise colours are great, games are awesome, movies are a bit iffy especially movies with existing grain. Although Avatar does look awesome on the U2711, better than my LG LED 1080 tv. Best thing, resolution, so much space, love it, just make sure you have decent eye sight!

And the comment above getting a 16:10 instead of the 16:9 2560x1440, doesnt make sense, the resolution is so much that any work will be perfect on it. An extra 160px doesnt make that much a difference at an already very high resolution.

I also want to change my gfx card from 4890 to a 6970.

Thanks Mass... I think Im pretty much sold on the u2711, although may wait to see what just around the corner.

Not wanting to hijack my own thread...but just read a few of your other posts re: upgrades and highly recommend the Asrock gen3 boards. I upgraded from an q6600 @3.2ghz to this and with SSDs... WOW!

The auto OC is very simple and with the corsair cooler temps are (looks @ coretemp)...17c - 30c idle.

I got the Sapphire 6970 and again cant complain on the 2407 it runs everything very well.

Whole thing cost a few quid but I'm so pleased with the set up atm and just need the monitor to complete.

Awesome, yeh planning on getting the gen3 fatal1ty board.

Looking to get the g.skill ripjaws cl9 1600mhz in next few days, and build in a few months as im seeing prices of RAM going up.

Also may just go for xfire 6950s not sure yet.

But only the u2711 im starting to enjoy it, still need some time to get used to the size, everythings so small.

Anyways let us know what you end up getting.:)

My votes still with the Hazro TBH - if there are users here saying the image quality is very similiar on the newer Dell models to the Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP then I would definitely say without a shadow of a doubt, the Hazro is a HUGE upgrade in actual picture quality over my older 2407WFP.

As for input lag - I am VERY sensitive to this. I remember when Dell had to replace one of my 2407s as it died within warranty period. The guy turned up with a 2408WFP-HC and the Input Lag was TERRIBLE compared to my older 2407WFP.

I made them replace it again haha!!

The Hazro however, has zero input lag that I can notice (like the 2407WFP before it).

According to TFT Central review of the Hazro it's input lag was recorded at 8.8ms. Extremely low! The Dell U2711 however as at 30.0ms!!

Hope this helps!

I meant the 2407WFP and U2711 look the same, in terms of screen (exterior) and AG coating. Quality wise the u2711 is far superior.

I went from the 2407 A04 to the samsung in my sig. I don't really miss 16:10, I thought I would but it doesn't seem to make that much difference. At first I was against the glossy screen but once I got the monitor I was really impressed, you really don't notice the gloss much but everything looks crystal sharp. No more grain. I also find the monitor a lot more responsive due to the 120hz.

I haven't seen a 27inch dell up close so I couldn't really compare but it was between that and the samsung for me and I just decided to go for the better refresh rate.

Yh a few of the lads I play bf3 with have the Sammy monitor. I am tempted by the 750 model, but not totally sold. Really need to see one running tbh. It's a lot of £££ for something I'll only use as a 2d monitor.

Reading a few posts in the Hazro thread concern me, which means the Dell is still in the running with build quality etc.

Sigh... decisions decisions...

do you need a graphics card with dual to dvi outputs to run 2560 x 1440?

I don't game on the pc and run a silent ATI 4350 - will that work at that res?

You need a dual link dvi port. The 4350 should have at least one. 1080p should be fine as long as you are using hardware acceleration.

OP, as long as you don't go for the glass version the 27wc is a great screen. Very low input lag as it doesn't have any scalers or switches in it and great out of the box colours.
The 2711 is a great screen if you are ok with the grain from the AG coating (found it about the same as the 2407) but its input lag is noticeable even from a 2407/u2410.
Unlike the same mode on the u2410, the game mode on the 2711 I found didn't do anything apart from over saturate colours.

I personally wouldn't downgrade to a TN and after using it on both the tv and pc I find 3d a bit of a gimmick. True 120hz isn't though. So it's either a lower res, lower screen quality but 120hz or a higher res, same or better screen quality + same 60hz.

I agree about the AG coating being similar to the 2407WFP, but its slightly more noticeable on the larger u2711, infact only when side by side did i realise after using for 4 years that the 2407WFP had grain also.

I've run a couple of games. I think they look aweome. Not really sure about input lag, I personally dont see any issues.
