Who likes Punk?

Me.

Saw the Sex Pistols twice, The Clash 4 times, The Ramones twice and everybody else you can think of during the Punk heyday.
To be fair the Ramones were never a punk band because they were out way before the UK Punk explosion.
I can still remember the first time I heard The Ramones.
I used to buy records just by looking at the cover and this album had just been imported from the States.
I took it home, put it on the record player, turned the volume up and when Blitzkrieg Bop came on me and my mate just looked at each other open mouthed.
Beat On The Brat followed and the next thing I'm ringing up the shop to see if they had a second copy for my mate and we drove up to Hanley.
Good times.

Still got it -

Check The Sex Pistols Experience out
i do have a vested interest but they are better than the real thing IMO

I'm just catching up on my old uk punk atm, enjoying clashes first album...
I love american punk mainly such as... Lawrence Arms, Banner Pilot, NOFX, Minor Threat etc

I may have to send this link round to a few people at work, we were only discussing the other day about 'punk' bands and I had quite a difficult time trying to explain that Blink182 are not a punk band. Nu or not.

It was a difficult time :(

Me! Depends on what you define as punk, but as a generalisation I like most of it from way back when up until the early 2000's - can't say I've listened to a lot of stuff past 2005 as I found it became a little too generic - even all the older bands I liked that were releasing new stuff I've found to be a tad contrived!

Even at the start of Punk it was hard for us going to watch bands who were labelled as Punk because some were clearly not.
The Stranglers, The Jam, the Police and Squeeze were all labelled Punk (later New Wave) and it was very confusing.
The Sex Pistols always considered themselves a rock n roll band and when I bought their first single I remember saying they were 'Hawkwind with a crap singer'.
In the early days of UK Punk the only 2 bands that had that 'Punkiness' were The Damned and The Clash and everybody else was just chucked into that label, even Elvis Costello got lumped in at one time.
However, after that initial labelling and the media making people believe they could just pick a guitar up and form a band, this was the start of some real crap like The Slits, The Killjoys, The Adverts and so on who did have a punk attitude.

I always thought The Jam were always known as a mod band

I still listen to The Clash now :)
