Guys, I'm in Bahrain with work at the moment, I can get a 13" MBP brand new for $1187, which works out at under £800. I'm sorely tempted. It comes with a UK plug and all that... just wondering what warranty I'd get with it? Ie will I get Apple Care in the UK with it?

Usually if you buy a product from the States then the warranty is only valid over there and wouldnt be valid in the UK. You would need to read the terms and conditions to confirm this for certain though. You could probably still buy an aftermarket applecare insurance package for it once you get back to the UK though

I believe Apple UK will honour the warranty as its done from the serial number rather than where it was bought. However I would let someone else confirm this is correct

I got a Macbook Air last time I was in the states, and I've since had it fixed in the UK by Apple, so yes, the warranty does seem to be worldwide, and I still get the option to extend the warranty via Applecare.

Just need to be careful that the place you buy it from aren't selling you an ex-display or a unit where the warranty has already started.

Personally I'd go with the Air (I did) because it's lighter and smaller... However the max 4GB of RAM is a shame. Worth it as the i7 is significantly cheaper than the UK and personally worth the extra over the MBP.

Won't be an issue.

So Pro or Air?

Depends, what more important? HDD space? Weight? Screen res? Having a dvd drive?

Pro ultimately is a bit quicker and can take 8gig of ram but doesn't have as good a screen res and is slightly heavier (than the 13"). Pro also comes with a much bigger hdd (which can be swapped at home for an ssd).

I have the pro 13" now which is really nice to use as it's pretty much a pretty light fully capable laptop for anywhere. Would have liked the air as its lighter but it would have been a bit more cash (that I don't have) to get the max ssd

Weight doesn't bother me. What about display output options? If I wanted to run it through my LCD Tv or Dell 2407?

There are plenty of thunderbolt/mini-dvi adapters out there for macbook pro/air's. I personally have a mini-dvi/hdmi adapter for my macbook air. Works brilliantly

Unless it's recently changed then it's an international warranty. I had no issues getting my local Apple store to service my 2006 MBP bought in the US.

Okay, thanks. Thought the air was limited as it is thunderbolt only.

I like how thin the air is but think I'll go for the Pro due to extra connectivity and more HDD space. Can always get a SSD for it at a later date or stick the Crucial M4 in when I upgrade the one in my PC to 256GB from 128GB. Is the screen res different in every day situations? I think I'd be making use of spaces for multiple program's open. Other than that I'd need to be able to remote desktop to my home machine.

They all have thunderbolt now ;) the airs one is only half as good (so can only drive one thunderbolt display not 2) but seeing as you are planning to run another type of display it'll just be a display port when you hook it up to your tv so either will be fine.

The ssd and ram upgrade's will help the little pro fly along though :) I don't really notice the lower res on the 13 inch now either, mainly as it just looks right for the screen size plus using spaces does help a lot for using lots of programmes (wish everything was set up for spaces).

Don't know about remote desktop yet though I would like to do that too (running the gaming pc from bed could be funny)
