USA road trip coming up.. Ford Mustang hired, advise on route please

Figured it wouldn't be yours :D.

If you happened find a gun on your person (fancy that ;) ) in a time of need, what would happen if you used it in a justified manner since you're not legally allowed one?

I spoke to a cop about this. It would certainly complicate matters to some degree if it came down to it at a subsequent court hearing but the general jist was keep the gun in the house and if someone breaks in, feel free to take them out. If we were out in the car in a dodgy area and someone tried to carjack us, if my wife had a gun on her and was unable to use it but I was, then I'd be able to use it.

It would take a lot of explaining and would probably result in a lot of trouble to begin with but better off in trouble than dead.

Thanks, what I assumed :)

Watching more of Hickcocks videos, seen a few before as well, awesome collection. God bless America :D

cheers guys, what do you think about satnav's?

i presume i can either:

- hire one at the car rental for silly one
- buy a cheap one and keep it
- crack my tomtom here and download usa maps
- pay for usa maps
- or buy a paygo sim with data and use my galaxy nexus

I have always used Copilot on my phone, It's been fine. I pre program all my routes and manually check it. For planning you can download a 30 day trial of streets and trips, I find the timings to be pretty acurate on that and you can print off nicely laid out instructions as a backup.

I wouldn't be happy to just let the sat nav find me a way without being able to check it all first. It's pretty easy to find your way in the USA you will find you don't really need to rely on it, but it's good to have it, Especially in cities. I also tend to want to take scenic routes so I have to progam in far more than A and B.

Yea, dont bother. I've never managed to work this one out cost effectively and virtually everywhere you go has free wifi anyway.

yeah, well kinda need gmail/gtalk active while on the road and could do with data for sat nav use, but i guess i could hire a sat nav

You NEED gmail whilst driving?! Seriously? I'm sure you don't.

Just use wifi in McDonalds if you are that desperate. Free wifi is everywhere.

I loved the mustang, I had a Focus ST at the time and found them remarkably similar power wise and drive wise, as Fox says though, not a lot of boot space though, two cases is a push in the back, smashed my kindle trying to close the boot when in Vegas :(

I did a similar roadtrip in 2001 after a trip to the national air and space museum in Huntsville AB. Look where the national parks are as they generally have hotels/lodges in fantastic scenery - better than a roadside motel any day. Cheeaha was particularly special.

That building on the left is the restaurant looking out over the vista

Also don't expect to get alcohol everywhere, there were a lot of dry restaurants in that area which came as a great surprise to me.

[TW]Fox I remember you said you didn't do any snorkelling in the keys due to jelly fish, but what did you do? Did you prefer any of the islands over the others?

We went out on a Glass Bottom Boat from Key Largo instead. It was Jellyfish infested - absolutely crazy. The locals were really worried about it because they were saying if they didnt go soon it was going to really hammer the tourist industry there. They are not supposed to be there.

The keys were lovely but obviously the highlight was Key West itself. The perfect end to a fantastic day driving down through the Keys was an evening mooching around Key West.

that's interesting just been reading some reviews that said it was over commercialised. It's the end so a must anyway, but good to know, you can't always trust these "reviews"

Certainly is, also found in Aus that when your out there you bump into people and find out the cool stuff to do.

Did you go to marathon at all?

Yes I did - well you've pretty much got to go to each of the islands to get to Key West. Went to a Turtle place in Marathon.

And Wendys.
