RX8 Purchase - Thoughts invited.

An e46 330 for 3.5k? rather you than me! He would have to double his budget to get a worthwhile 6mps..................

Plenty of good 330 coupes around for that money now, a year or so ago I would have agreed with you. Was looking (seriously, so actually looking and driving) not too long ago and there were some really good cars with an asking price of between £3.5-4k, as with everything there were cars with 60k miles that are absolute sheds and some with 120k plus that were immaculate, full history and still very good condition leather etc. Would just need to accept that it would be an earlyish car. I had an e36 328 on high miles and it was still fantastically well held together

Suspected as much r.e the 6 which is a shame, very underrated imo

Yep agree with that, I'm not 100% decided and it's good to take in other peoples opinions on the matter. I've got other factors to consider then just getting the best drivers car, 4 seats, modern safety features, partners preference etc. I'll happily welcome alternatives, but don't want this to be a spec me thread.

Really hard to pick an alternative to an RX8, as for the price nothing in that category (RWD, 200bhp, coupé, 4 seats). Unless you look at old DC2 integra's. Which are excellent cars, but you will need to be prepared for the upkeep of one.

How about a hot hatch? The Mazda 3 MPS, can be has for around £5k now, and if you look hard enough, try and find a pre March 2006 model to avoid the high tax band.

Personally i don't think it's worth getting into an E46 330 for 3-4k, like you say it's going to be a bottom of the barrel 01/02, odds are it's going to need a shed load of work doing on it and when you factor in the ongoing running costs you might as well spend more and buy a good one in the first place.

A 5k 3mps is going to be a shed, you need 7k for a nice one.

I used to own one of these.

A red 190bhp model. If you dont mind the lack of torque, low mpg and oil thirsty engine then go aread.

It's a great for trips. Most comfortable car I've owned. I had mine for about 12 months before getting rid it drinks petrol like theres no tomorrow and didnt feel that fast tbh. Keeping the engine in good condition is fairly easy.... Check oil levels often and NEVER switch the car off while the engine pretty much cold (hasnt been warmed up). I think I still have my instruction manual sitting around lol. Shall post pics!

Someone may have already mentioned this but apart from a few cosmetic changes there isnt that much of a difference betwwek the two.

The 230's rev limit is higher and come with 6 gears whereas the 190 model comes with 5 iirc.

192. Walk away.

*edit*
And it's a 2007 - insanely high tax.

Very true.

I got mine before the increase. Back when it was around 230.00. You're now looking at just under double that. One of the reasons why Mazda stopped selling this car over here.

Was going to say the tax costs on them are way too high for the performance it returns. There are better cars out there unless you absolutely have to have an rx8, in which case do it :p
