Don't see what the big deal is.. Its not as if they're alive is it ! I could understand if they were just having a nap being upset that a few beer'd up fellas are relieving themselves, but its not as if they're gonna wake up smelling of pee is it !

Why don't I go desecrate the dead bodies of your family?My view also. Many cultures can forgive even the death of a loved one when they come to terms with how they died. How could that family possibly come to terms with the death knowing that such foul acts was performed on the corpse?
Its kinda like a car driver hitting another car, killing them in the crash and then urinating on their corpse also. Both knew the situation they were in (ie driving, compared to combat) and you still get the same result.
The "hearts and minds" view is very much real in these situations where to truly leave another country you have to have the local population on your side or you change nothing. Urinating on a corpse only provokes the local population into outrage. Sounds like the soldiers need a basic IQ test and then a royal **** kicking from their CO over doing such a operationally retarded thing.

Wait, so we suspended this guy because he did something disgusting (said the soldiers should die) in response to a group of people doing something disgusting (weeing on dead bodies), yet we (royal we) are defending a group of soldiers who did something disgusting (weeing on dead bodies) in response to a group of people doing something disgusting (being enemy combatants in a guerilla war).

The key difference being though, is that if this were a film of the Taliban urinating on the bodies of dead western soldiers, their leadership would probably approve of it, and perhaps even congratulate them. These US Marines have already been identified, and are probably going to face a court martial for their actions.
These Marines actions, while are somewhat understandable given the horrors of combat, are inexcusable, and it would seem that their leadership agrees by the pending criminal case.

Indeed. There will be some furious top brass due to the possible damage this sort of action can have on the overal operations success.

It was a bit of supposition on my part that desecrating enemy dead wouldn't be too much of a stretch for an organisation that throws acid in school girl's faces, or abducts, tortures and murders member's of Afghanistan and Pakistan's security forces, and numerous people they label 'spies' who in the majority of cases I suspect, are no such thing.
I remember reading in Ed Macy's book Apache that he was involved in an operation to recover the body of a Special Forces soldier, who'd been left behind on a raid and had been skinned, I can only hope, after he'd been killed by the Taliban.
So nevertheless a baseless accusation. Jolly good.
Besides, we're still in the logically inconsistent territory of you claiming that because they would probably do the same and approve of it, then it's OK, even though in the same breath you're moaning about all the other stuff they do, such as throwing acid in school girls' faces, or abducting, torturing and murdering people, or skinning soldiers. Or are all those things now OK for American marines to do as well?
