Hi guys just looking for some advice. I currently have a gtx 460 hawk 1gb with a mild overclock to 850/2000. I am looking at purchasing a 6870 2gb for £150 as the 460 really seems to struggle running BF3 max on 1080p and have noticed slowdowns in other newer games as well.

Is the TDP for the 2gb version still 150w?

Much appreciated

Adam

Adam, I don't think the 6870 is going to be much better.

Yes it has more vram (so you should be smoother) but it's not going to run BF3 on max.

For that you'll need at the very least a 6950 2gb.

I was looking at the 6950 but before I got the 460 I tried an ATI 4890 which is 190w and it wouldn't start up in my machine. PSU is coolermaster gx-650 with 52 amps on single 12v rail. I am not sure if it was the card or the PSU but the card worked in my friends PC without a problem and he has a 1200w silverstone. I am wary of going any higher than 160w as I think I'll end up sending it back or needing to buy a new PSU for it to work...

the 6950 2GB or the GTX 560ti 1GB will be perfect. There are GTX560ti's avalible with 2GB of Vram too, though this shoudln't be needed for 1080p.

[unrelated: im looking to purchase a GTX460 HAWK :), seriously]

Doomed I would certainly be interested in selling it if I got a new card. I don't know if we are allowed to discuss that though as I don't have access to the members market yet. I was looking at those 560ti 448 editions too, I definitely need above 1gb ram as BF3 uses around 1-1.5gb vram on max settings.

We are not allowed to discuss it here ( i have the same user name on a popular auction site though) Haha!

I did not realised it used that much VRAM, don't own it myself.

The 448's are slimmed down GTX 570's. They are based on the 570 board, just with some featurwes disabled, that is why the VRAM is the same. Cheap GTX570 aren't much more expensive than the 448's though.

I would say the 6950 2GB would be your best bet.

Just seen the sapphire 6950 which has the switch on it that unlocks it to 6970 shaders. Is there any other 6950's that have this switch?

The 448 is brilliant. Get it. http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-core-review/17 It's outperforming both the 6950 and the 6970 here. And wit ha good overclock it will outperform the 570. The MSI Twin Frozr ones are known to OC to ~1000Mhz core beating even OCed 570s.

I think I'm gonna go with the MSI gtx 560ti 448 edition. Any idea how much I could fetch for my gtx 460 hawk?

Unfortunately can't get into the members market yet. You said you were looking for one that is all...
