Playing games on a 42 inch tv, any way to make the picture smaller?

Ok so I can connect my HDTV to my graphics card and run games on it at 1080p. The tv is 42 inch.

Problem is because the screen is so big 1080p looks rubbish so I want to shrink the picture size, to say half of the screen. (so there's a box in the middle with the display in it and a large black border around it) so that the picture is smaller.

Is there anyway to do this?

I've tried sliding the thing in CCC but it only goes to like -3 or something and doesn't make the picture that much smaller.

Thx for any help :)

just change the resolution and it will do that on mine 1920x1080 is full screen i just drop it too 1650 x 1080 and job done

Sit further back?

Doing what you want to do will only result in a lower resolution but the same pixel size. I think what you're talking about is reducing the pixel size, which isn't possible on LCD/Plasma technology.

There should be a 0-15% underscan option in the CCC. That's about the best you're going to do. Alternatively apply 2/4x AA as that should resolve some of the jaggies.

am i right in thinking 1080p dosent even look bad on big screens, even the 50inch panasonicive just ordered, that looked stunningin the shop. imo you shouldnt need to underscan or anything it should look alright

1080p does look pretty bad at 42 inch, 1080p on say a 22-27 inch monitor would look crisp, but at 42 inch it looks pretty bad. Ye I've got alll settings cranked up high.

Don't wanna lower the res as it will just look as bad.

I try the scan thing on my tv

You can't squeeze any more pixels on a 1920x1080 screen.

You could lower the resolution but the effect would be less than adequate.

TBH just get a monitor. Why would anyone want to PC game on a 42" TV is not comprehensible to me. Unless you sit like 10 feet away from it that is.

I know on my samsung 42" I had to change it to "PC MODE" - and I think some of them are underscan or something, I googled it and it fixed my probs, I use this for all my games etc

I've been using a 42'' for the last 3 years, watch blu-rays, watch porn,
play games all whilst in bed :) Wireless mouse keyboard + gamepad,
I Would never go back to a small monitor.

imdubious now. now ive ordered a vierra. does 1080p actually look bad on circa > 42inch ?

If it's across the room from you for normal HD movie watching or maybe console gaming, it'll look just fine. If you were using it as a monitor and sitting as close to it as you generally would a monitor (i.e. ~1m on the desk you're sat at) then it will definitely look pretty bad. At least when comparing it to the same resolution, 22" screen.

You won't get any better pixel pitch on a large TV screen though.

As an example, my 27" monitor has a pixel density of 109 PPI, your 42" TV is not even half that at 52.5 PPI.
