**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Yeah the AI has one tactic and only 1, turtle up, build whatever is the direct counter to this (i play terran, if the ai is zerg they will always roach rush so i build to directly counter that)... Job done :)

Why playing the AI is not really worth your time as real people very rarely roach rush...

While not a rush, early roach timing pushes are becoming more and more frequent I'm finding.

Roaches aren't really a good unit, but they are fast becoming the staple of any Zerg army (due to not other option).

They're too expensive on food to be useful early game. Because they're cheap and not that strong, your army is actually not that strong despite having a high food count. Stalkers make a lot more sense, they're more expensive and a lot more versatile for the same food count.

Roach timings are a good way to try and punish a greedy Protoss player doing FFE, but even they can be held if the Protoss player see's it coming and drops down an additional cannon or two.

I think all Zerg's should have an early Roach pressure build in their arsenal, because it's important to not be completely predictable and to punish the greed of opponents. Both Terran and Protoss really like to take fast expansions against a fast expanding Zerg since they don't expect any aggression, well now they might not always be so sure.

You can push out 8 roaches within 3.5 minutes, plus 2 zerglings. That's a pretty mad opener. It's not going to win you many platinum games due to counters but you can hide that too.

Roaches are pretty good for the early game but they lose value as it gets into mid-late game.

Vs Terran

14Hatch
14Gas
14Pool
16Overlord
2-4 Lings (More lings +Spine if 2rax)
2Queens
Drones to 28
Warren on 28 (Replace the drone)
Zergling Speed
2x Overlord
28-44 Supply Roaches
2xOverlord
44-52 Zerglings

I got sacrificed in my first 3v3 with some friends, some random went all in with scv's right off the bat on me but I survived so he rage quit, only to be serverely hampered and taken out by the first wave. We won our 2nd go and I made it through intact but did lose both bases. :< Need to pick up my speed again.

Any fairly high level toss here? Preferably high plat - masters?. Having a lot of trouble beating terrans :/ finding it impossible.

Roachs are useless in zvt, unless mech. They are good in ZvP but when > mid-game you need infestors or corrupters for support and early game your need roach/ling. They are basically the staple unit for zvz, just need support with infestors or hydra. roach hydra or roach infestor beats mutaling any day.

I'd rather go fast upgraded lings that go roach in zvz. Unless it really get's late in the game (which is rarely does)

I generally do 15hatch into really quick banelings with delayed ling speed for defence. Then go into roach once I know that the threat of his lings are no more or I can get 10+ roach and his lings are useless.

As long as you can get a surround you can easily take out roaches with upgraded lings. Wait for him to move and and surround him then take his mineral line out with banes.

I can't help, but just out of interest, what Terran play/builds do you find are beating you. I'm high gold and it's the exact opposite for me, keep getting rolled by P and 50/50 Zerg.

sup. Post replays. :D

I can vouch for Alex's ability. Last time we played I think you were on 4 expo's as I was taking my natural lol

Yes of course, that's because 1 base all-inning is much easier than learning to read the game/scout/react properly.

...nothing wrong with going all in as a response to something your opponent is doing though, e.g. 1 cannon FFE/fast 3cc.
