What to expect from Apple in 2012?

Apple hardly updates the Mac Pro range any more. It's 2012 and it still doesn't have Thunderbolt. Apple is a consumer-orientated mainstream company these days.

This keeps coming up and is a completely pointless argument.

Intel is the sole reason the MP hasn't been updated yet. No new chips = no new line-up.

Why would Apple spend R&D resources adding TB to the current MP lineup for it to be replaced in 3 months time?

It would require doing basically what they have to do for the SB-E Mac Pro, redesign the backplane!

So given most people with a Mac Pro don't give a monkies, because amazingly TB doesn't offer them anything new, then why even bother?

It will be updated.

I put my upgrade money on it.

I personally can't wait to see what the "iTV" has to offer. Gorilla Glass 2 is looking very good - We could see a TV without a bezel, which I imagine would look pretty damn sexy :D

Another iPhone iteration. If they go back to single figures it'll be 6 not 5.

Mac Pro update when Intel gets their new chips out.

iPad 3 with 4x the res of the current.

15" MacBook Air

iPod touch revision will get the A5 chip. Due it's physical dimensions, it may be at a period where it's limited by the batteries of today in that slim casing. I can see it being a processor revision behind now.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they've thrown into the new iPhone also. Hoping for the technology in the wireless debit cards (Can't remember what they call it :p)

Also looking forward to seeing what they've done with the Macbook Pros. Rumours are going around about a complete design revamp over the series of Apple products... Could be good, could be bad :p

NFC, my credit card now has it, but no one else does, so currently pointless.

That's it :)

I thought the contactless payment they have in some debit/credit cards was NFC? Am I wrong?

Your right. My card has it, but as far as I've seen no one has NFC terminals, then I can't use it.
Intels new net book chip has NFC though. So perhaps we will start seeing it come mainstream soon.

So it would defo be one of the cool features on a possible ip5 we in the uk could use.

It's only £15 or less though. Just wish the supermarkets would introduce it on their tills.

You wouldn't have to worry about leaving card at home, just set up your phone to pay for stuff.
Although ultimately can we have it so you wave your card at phone/tablet and it pays for stuff when online shopping. I haven't heard this, so I assume it's not possible and not under devlopment ATM?

Yep I have it built into my credit and debit card and have used it before. It's great! I think if Apple put it into the next iphone it'll be mainstream technology by next year :)

This!

Will it be a fully integrated OLED TV (see Samsung's new uber 55" OLED behemoth with upgradable dual core board, kinict sensors, voice recognition, full app store etc)

Or a boggo ATV2 upgrade or maybe stop production altogether? (can iOS really compete with this new wave of TVs?)

Out of interest where?

I believe most McDonalds have the contactless card readers now.

Also everywhere in and around the o2 uses contactless.

Granted it is still fairly thinly used, but I think the iPhone has it, it'll be a massive boost :) Especially if they allow apps to use the technology (I.e. Subcard or Tesco Clubcard scannable as phone instead of the current 'scan the barcode')

My newest MBNA credit card has NFC, although you can only use it for purchases up to £15.

Yeah I think for now all cards that have contactless are limited to £15 purchases. Probably for the best though, it is kind of risky, unsecured technology at the moment :p

It would, but I doubt they will to be honest. They make a small fortune from accessory companies due to the unique cable they use.

Got iPhone 4 atm.

Will be ordering iPhone 5 as soon as pre-orders allowed.

Probably won't get the iPad 3 as already have iPad 2.

You'll see iOS6 without doubt.
You won't see anything regarding new OS, only updates to Lion.
iCloud features you'll see new ones of.
iPhone 5 you'll see
iPad 3 you'll see.
maybe a tweaked design iMac you'll see.
Apple entering the television market (probably) and maybe an apple tv 3
Siri will get massive updates and probably introduced into 10.8 as a headlining feature to sell the OS in 2013+
MacPro likely to see big overhaul.

I also think you'll see a few new software applications being launched.
