RC Helicopters

Ive still got my HoneybeeV2 although its a little broke as the bloody wind took it for a joyfly lol and promtly crashed into the side of the house - Looking to possibly get something 6ch with a dedicated Gyro, as this honeybeev2 is a pain in the backside with its gyro 4in1 thingie, probably a 250 sized copter but its the cost that will kill me, or i might fix the honeybee and buy myself another R/C truck lol.

I broke it already :(

Do you know where I can get spares? The Nine Eagle parts look slightly different, not sure they will fit.

Basically where there propeller goes on to the shaft its split the plastic, both bits, so I guess I need the shaft and the little round plastic thing that goes on top of it.

After comparing pictures of the parts on these pages:

I'm pretty sure they're the same helicopter. Take a look and see if you change your mind.

If you can fly the HoneyBee then don't hesitate to move on to a collective pitch helicopter. Even a 250 is a joy to fly after the Bee.

However, if you have a Spektrum radio, you should seriously consider an mCP X. They are just so good for the money.

Yup i can fly the bee away and towards me, do figure of 8's and nose dive landings -point it at the ground full speed and pull up and land although my blades often strike the tail boom doing that lol - Downside no speccy so whatever i choose it will be an expensive outlay, unless there are cheaper units similar to the speccys, i loved my 40mhz Sanwa Gemini on my R/C cars (not sure whats the got to do with it but nevermind lol) Its something ill look into to over the next month or so and see what i can pick up.

Maybe they are, I'm ordering metal ones off the bay.

The should be the same it's just been rebranded a few times. Can't the shop that sold you the heli get you spares?

I'd be careful buying metal ones. Parts like that are usually sacrificial, if they don't break, it can take out more expensive things.
Also metal ones bend and then you end up with wobbles and vibrations.

if you want to be a cheap ass buy one of the esky transmitters and recievers people sell when they buy the 6ch esky helis like the belt cp etc, they still go for around 50 quid though.

the other alterantive is a turnigy 9ch transmitter from hobbyking but it seems they are almost constantly out of stock

I'm looking at buying an RC plane and stumbled across the same transmitter as you're talking abou there, arknor.

Would you be able to help spec me some kit for a plane I want to buy? It's one of those ready to fly ones, just needs batteries and a transmitter and receiver. It's this - the Sbach 342.

Does anyone mind helping me with some questions re: ordering bits for thaT?

Suppose, firstly, what transmitter and receiver? There's a lot of choice and I really don't know where to start. :p There's also mode 1 and mode 2, it seems - what's that about?

Any idea what batter chargers would go with the batteries?

Thank you... :p

mode 2 = throttle on the left
mode 1 = throttle on the right
it tells you what battery
3300mah (the capacity) 4s (4 cells) lipo (the battery type)
such as
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=9501
any balance charger such as
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/..._6_50W_6A_Balancer_Charger_w_accessories.html
or
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__5548__IMAX_B6_Charger_Discharger_1_6_Cells_GENUINE_.html
they dont come with a built in power supply so you would need to buy that aswell many just use a laptop style power supply such as http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6256__12V_5A_110_240V_50_60Hz_Power_Supply.html
its possible to convert an old computer PSU aswell theres tons of guides on youtube, i wouldnt go any cheaper than those 2 chargers and never leave any lipos charging unattended
you would charge a 3300mah battery at 3.3amps (always charge in balance mode to keep each cell at the same voltage and never run a lipo until its dead
a 5000mah at 5amps etc

for a plane transmitter you might aswell get http://www.kingslynnmodelshop.co.uk..._(Mode_2)_5_Ch_DSMX_Tx_Only/product_info.html
and you'll need a reciever if one doesnt come with the transmitter for spektrum you can use http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11965

Yeah, good luck with that! It's not a beginners plane.
You want mode 2 in this country
Throttle and rudder on the left stick, elevator/aileron on the right stick.

For transmitter, just pick one you can afford. You don't need anything special to fly a 4 channel plane. The radios in this thread will work but will be massive overkill for you.

As a side note I've just had a go on someone's Syma 107g clone. Was fun and really easy to fly even if I did get a little confused by not having yaw on the left stick!

Is it worth getting stuff from that Hobby King, or can I expect similar prices from the UK? Shipping is about $60-70, plus the obvious delay in getting the goodies.

Thanks for the above - much appreciated. Did not realise that the charges needed their own power supply!! I'll read that guide on batteries now. Lithium Polymer batteries are pretty high tech arent they?

Also, what about the plan is particularly not suited for beginners? I don't know where to start - it was one on their Youtube channel that looked pretty much set to fly. Any suggestions for alternatives would be cool... :p

Finally - I saw a motor on there for $500, weighs 2.5kg but was the equivalent of a petrol motor pushing out 20hp! 20hp from a 2.5kg electric motor! That is fantastic!

Got my Heliguy Atom today, £45. Looks good, going to have a fly this afternoon. Obviously this is the fixed pitch model not the coaxial.

really is tiny, next to my 4G6S

The Heliguy Atom co-axial actually looks very similar to the Micro Twister Ninja, (details) which is distributed in the UK by J Perkins Distribution Ltd, who even publish their own UK manual for it, and it can be found in local model shops and elsewhere also, for about £25.

It is obviously a lot easier to fly than the fixed pitch model, but not quite so much of a challenge, perhaps! :)

It's a mid wing, symmetrical air foil stunt plane. It's designed to be inherently unstable so you can do rolls, loops and tight turns. It will be fast, turn quickly and go where you point it, maybe into the ground. And it wont be very easy to repair if at all.

If you go back the hobby king site and click on the beginner/trainer section you will see the kind of designs that are recommended. High wing, dihedral wings, made of EPP. Some even come with radio gear and batteries, however the radios tend to be on the rubbish side. Here is a plane that could be good. Needs transmitter/batteries again but the rest is better for a beginner. Hobbyking Tuff Trainer

tends to be much much cheaper to buy from hobbyking , giantcodrc sell some of the hobbyking stuff but obviously the prices arent as competitive and they include VAT etc

Edit: Please ignore the above comment... I hadn't realised that the Atom CoAx model also has 4 channels!

Right just had a fly! :D Excellent, if your looking to progress from the 3 channel co-axials then this is a very good stepping stone to a proper heli. Its light and quite fast, you can get a lick on if your not careful but cut the power and it bounces harmlessly to the ground. It has digital trims on everything so you can get it set just right, has a bit of tail drift but not bad, keeps you sharp.
