I'm going to the theatre tonight (seeing Wicked at the Apollo Victoria) however I have never been to a show before and don't know how I should dress. It's an evening show so I had black formal trousers and shoes and a white pinstripe shirt (no tie) in mind.
What would you wear?

I went smart casual to the ballet last week. Shirt, jumper and chinos. There is no need to go ott.

I went to Wicked at that theatre on Tuesday night actually. Great show if you enjoy that sort of thing. I don't mind it but my mind starts to wander after watching a musical for almost 3 hours...

Dress code is black tie though, they won't let you in the door if you don't have a tie and euit jacket etc on.
Just kidding, I was in my work gear as I came straight from work, so nice pants, shoes and button up shirt but it wasn't necessary, the others I was with had jeans etc. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Mankini TBH, theatres can be hot and the mankini will ensure your testicles get the breathing space they need

So different to the olden days. UK is very relaxed about dress code. You can wear jeans to an evening performance at the royal opera house now. Although personally I would'nt.

Even Paris is relaxed about it now and most people wear office wear as it were.

The only country that can be strict is Italy.

Anyway, musicals are a completely different kettle of fish. Just be casual. What you have listed is more than adequate.
