Samsung Smart Window

This sort of technology really interests me :) But I wonder how long before this sort of tech becomes mainstream?

Imagine this sort of tech used on shower doors etc. :p Bring up the iTunes widget on the door, select your playlist etc. :p

I wonder if it can run windows?

Not seen the film, so not sure if it was some kind of CGI trickery, but top-end BMWs (amongst others) have a HUD projected on to the windscreen.

Ie. not the same as this.

Thats the other thing, things like speed dials will be done like this (as already are done kind of in some cars?)

As above

I like how everyone is going on about it wouldn't be practical in the home. Of course it wouldn't, it's not designed for that! I can see this being used a huge amount in corporate/government buildings, incorpated into meeting rooms etc.

I actually have one of these in my office now, arrived yesterday.

(The image is upside down because of the orientation of the panel inside the box.)

It is amazing technology, but still quite limited at the moment. The colour is no where near as bright as a normal TFT screen.

The main draw back at the moment is price. The cost of the 22" version is nearly $1000, so the 46" version must be ridiculous.

This really isn't designed for home use, more for signage and industrial purposes.

I wonder if one of these as a monitor would have less eye strain than than a traditional screen (just using ambient light rather than a back light).

It'll have limited application - most people 1) wouldn't want to stare out of their window and 2) wouldn't want to put something expensive on display because it'll be nicked or vandalised.

What happens when it goes dark outside as well? There's no backlight that I can see.

So far as I can tell it's another toy for posh glass+chrome corporate reception areas.

sod using it as a window i'd have it as a free standing screen in the kitchen etc :p

The pane of glass already exists, afaict. It's the projection equipment that is new, you can use it with any window in your house :)
