Thinking of taking the plunge and going from as title says 570s sli to 7970 single and putting my rig under water, from what i can see i wont lose any performance and will gain a quieter cooler solution, or am i wrong ?

I can see where your coming from, i just changed from 6970 xfire to 7970 and very little diference in performance but less hassle of multi gpu set ups, the only downside is the cost but then i do suffer from upgrade addiction

cost is nulified by selling old cards 570's will fetch a fair penny and may even cover the cost of the 7970 if people get into a bidding war over them, Meaning all the extra cost will be on the watercooling, not sure what a watercooling setup would cost but id assume it would be around 2-300 for a decent cpu and gpu loop.

going from SLI 570's to single 7970 I think you will lose performance to be honest.

It's up to you, you know what performance you can expect from a single 7970 from all the reviews which without looking into it to much I would expect it to be a bit less then sli'd 570's. On the plus side you have the acoustics benefit, smoother performance and less hassle with setting up the drivers for SLI and having to wait for Nvidia to patch the latest games to work with SLI.

Is there anything about your current setup that bothers you? Is micro stuttering a problem are the drivers giving you grief, is noise a big issue? If you answer yes to 2 out of 3 of those questions then go ahead with the swap if not keep what you have I'm sure it can handle everything you throw at it at the moment.

No problems with current setup but and this is a very personal thing, the fact my 570s dont match bothers me , i didnt think it would that much but it niggles me. Add on the fact if i go watercooling i would want to start with a single GPU block so one 360 rad would be enough to cover my cpu and gpu.

Not that much loss tbh and any defecit would be made up from the ease of running a single, cooler, more efficient card. And the OP can always CF them at a later date.
Look at the maximum framerates, only loses out by 1fps on the minimum fps over the run.

Can I be the first to say that you're thinking stone crazy? Non matching cards make NO DIFFERENCE. Why spend more money on a slower setup? Ditch the upgrade fever. Wait until there's something available that's faster, or get some water cooling just for your CPU for now.

I'd be wanting significantly more than one benchmark to persuade me to upgrade from GTX 570 SLi, especially when they're not even run on the same platform! (Phenom vs Core i7). I'd also be interested to see the benchmarks at a higher resolution than 1680x1050 to try and take the CPU out of the equation. I mean let's be honest who in their right mind is going to be running those video cards at 1050P?

Agree, was going to post something similar, the fact its only 150 points but thats quite a lot in heaven and pitting an i7 againt a Phenom II aint fair either.

This, especially if your gaming @1080p, your 570 sli setup will still be a good bit faster in most instances.

Sure the 7970 is an oc'ing monster, but the 570's oc'ed are no slouches, they are a very capable setup.

The only way I'd change would be if I was having dual setup woes.

As it is I'm keeping my dual oc'ed 6950>70's, as they have performed admirably for me along with being faster than a highly oc'ed 7970@ 1080p.

Chances are you also won't like the transformation to Amd's CCC especially if you haven't used it at all/for a while.

Just to answer a couple of questions and comments , i completely agree about the cards being different making no difference. My issue which has no bearing on a techincal level but purely on an aesthetic one. Again im sure it might make some people angry but im sure theres some that also see my niggle and by niggle i mean just that, being able to have a single watercooling card and make my setup look great is all part of the fun of tweaking and messing with it. The noctua d14 is an amazing cooler and it does exactely what i want , but its not the prettiest and the thought of going wc and making everything look more pleasing to my eye as well as cooler is appealing to me.

As for the cards they are

MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

and

Palit GeForce GTX 570 - Graphics adapter - GF GTX 570 - PCI Express 2.0 x16 - 1.25 GB GDDR5 - DVI, HDMI

you can have a gold star for pulling out heaven benchmarks:rolleyes: not to mention the cpus are completely different.

From results in reviews a good overclock on a 7970 will get you around gtx570 sli performance which is around the same as a 6990/gtx590. With watercooling and a good clocker he should be able to push those clocks further than the stock air cooler used in reviews. He obviously takes pride in the way his pc looks so i see no problem here.

His gtx570's should get him around £400 give or take. Its probably the best time to sell gtx570's with amd set to release cards in the next few months, that will compete with them on price/performance. I say go for it as its also a good upgrade path for the future if you want to add another.
