Would like opinions with people who've had experience with both kinds of these monitors on all types of games, rpgs and fps
Which is more taxing on the gpu?

Would be nice to see a poll

Thanks

Recently bought a 120hz monitor and its hard now to go back to 60hz for FPS type games.

Before it died I did still like using 1440 for other games, especially where I could have a game open and some other windows.

From my experiencve and not taking into account the extra pixels the picture quality will be better on the 1440 screen.
I have owned the viewsonic 120hz screen and currently own the Asus one. Sitting next to the u2711 they both had far worse picture quality. Really noticeable when gaming. Like the jump from 720 to 1080.
The best graphics i have ever experienced arent on the 1440 screen, they are on the 120hz screen. 3d is like jumping from dx11 straight to dx20 in how much of an improvement it gives to games visualy.
However you may not be interested in 3d.
So the other plus point is the smoothness on the 120hz screen.

For me if i play an fps game competitively i will use the 120hz as my enjoyment comes from the winning and not the graphics.
If i am playing any sp game or slow mp game (that is not 3d ready) i will use the 1440@60hz screen as the graphics outweigh the smoothness of the 120hz.

They are both similarly taxing on the gpu. Playing at 120fps@1080 will take very similar setup to 60fps@1440, although you feel the benefit of the 120hz screen from as long as it is above 60fps.

Phil.

As above it depends a lot on the game your playing, for slower paced games, mmos, etc. then a higher resolution and/or non-TN panel can be a massive benefit but for fast paced games especially multiplayer/competitive there is no compromise the 120Hz panel is a must for responsiveness/smoothness and reduced residual image problems compared to most 60Hz panels.

I would take the 120Hz panel myself, even over a range of games, as its a pain switching screens depending on the game your playing and the increased smoothness is nice.

Got a Hazro and had an 120hz Asus, (sold the Asus due to lack of space) both are nice but TN Film is just nasty imo, You really need both.

one day i hope we can get 1440p @ 120hz. this way i can enjoy PLS / IPS / VA @ a proper monitor resolution without ghosting

perhaps with ipads and other tablets gunning for silly resolutions and the combination of 3D without glasses using new barrier technologies we might get there sooner than we think :)

They should skip this and go straight to 8K resolutions. Dammit! It's taking forever...
