I have an 8GB of 1333mhz ram in 1156 MB with a i5 750 .
One channel has 1x4 GB stick , the over is 2x2GB sticks , Iv ordered some new another 8GB of ram , Not for this machine but my next build , Im getting the parts bit by bit as and when deals come around rather than all together .
So at the moment iv got an extra 8GB sitting around its a higher speed but I understand its set to 1333Mhz .
I know from many opinions that 8GB seems to be optimum , but If I add them to make use of em in the meantime to my current system would It slow my system down , Am I going over a balanced threshold . mainly its for gameing , some say battlefield runs smoother as is high ram usage , Especially If your running other stuff behind it , Music , chat , multiple browser tabs ect .
So The max If could fit would be 3x4 GB and 1x2 , In what configuration would be best , that would give me max of 12GB ect or should I just change to 4GB x 2 rather than uneven sticks ?
Or is it not worth the trouble and leaving em in their packets ?

The most effective way to have memory installed is one stick per channel, so two in a dual channel board and three in a tri channel board.

Mixing and matching memory is not a good idea unless you need to maximum the amount of RAM.

Andi.

So in my case switching the configuration to 2x4GB in seperate channels would be my best configuration leaving to slots empty .I guess slight improvement perhaps ? thanks

Depending on motherboard yes, 8GB is more than enough for most applications. I assume you're using a 64bit operating system otherwise it can't address even 8GB.

Yeah 64 bit , currently got 8GB installed in mix n match style 1 channel 4GB with an empty spare slot , 2nd channel 2x2 GB both slots full .
