BF3 played with AMD 7970 Crossfire 120Hz Portrait Eyefinity

Are the monitors showing different colours because they are TN panels and the viewing angles (especially in portrait) effect it a lot or because the settings need tweeking? The bezels and the big difference in the colours on different monitors would drive me mad.

Not exaclty high settings

@evilcrow1001 I didn't write down every single option as it is pretty obvious that you wouldn't be able to run this resolution and FPS with everything on Ultra eh? Not even with four 7970's.

Textures: High

Shadows: Medium

Effects: Low

Mesh: Low

Terrain: Low

FXAA: High

AF: 16x

HBAO: None

That actually looks pretty slick...

I'm not normally a fan of three-screen portrait setups, but with the thin bezels it looks a lot better.

maybe i'm one of the few but i'd hate to play like that, would have a head ache and eye strain after 30 minutes or so!

What a display :D. I love the owl desktop picture also but I do have a question for you Vega. Where can I get the spinning globe active desktop?.

I don't like the bezels, but something weird just happened whilst watching your video.

After a minute or so of watching, I started to concentrate on your gameplay rather than the monitor setup itself and then after about 5 minutes of doing this, I decided to close the video down. All of a sudden I suddenly see the bezels appear out of nowhere - I just realised that for the last five minutes I wasn't seeing the bezels, as in my brain had some how 'removed' them out of my field of vision. It was pretty weird.

wow man very nice setup :) would be interested to see how that runs at ultra settings (i see your settings are in the comments on youtube) though (minus the AA, not needed)

The side monitors are angled to help with the TN viewing angles. You have to sit right in the middle of the display setup and not off to the side.

Google lava planet dreamscene.

how did u manage use two 7970 on 3 screens ? at the moment ? full resolution ?

The right monitor had to be hooked up with HDMI (60Hz) temporarily until either the side monitor can be replaced with a DVI-D input one of the same panel (which they make, called the S23A700D), or I get the eyefinity 6 7970's and/or 6GB 7970's that are suppose to come out. In that case I would upgrade my 3x1 setup to 5x1. ;)

My bezels are only 1/4 inch wide. You'd be amazed how your brain get's rid of them and filters them out when playing and you don't even notice them after a while.

As for people that don't like portrait: have you ever seen a properly set up portrait setup? It is one of those things that must be seen in person to appreciate. The only advantage isn't just a "larger" image. It has THREE times the resolution as a larger screen like say a 52" HDTV. That is a HUGE difference. The clarity and detail is amazing.

I've tried many landscape setups. With 120Hz screens, you are limited to a measly 1080 vertical pixels which makes for a small and narrow picture. A large 16:10 screen does a much better job of filling your vision with detailed information versus this very narrow and wide image of landscape.

With a 16:10 portrait setup you get a much bigger "immersion" factor like looking out a window into the game world, you don't get that with landscape. The image also has useful information everywhere that your eyes can gather at once. In a narrow landscape, most of your information is limited to that one tiny center screen with a bunch of blurry/stretched information out in your peripheral which is a waste.

It will all be perfect though when I go 5x1 portrait here shortly. I will have a nice tall vertical and it will be nice and wide.

To the chap who asked on screen dimensions, the setup is 35" wide , 21" tall and 40" diagonal. If you like metric you can convert yourself. :D

Thanks for that, too big for the space it would need to sit in though. :(

The missus would have murdered me and posted a shot of my head on a plate to the forum if it did fit, so I wouldn't have got to use it anyway!

Looks crazy immense! I bet your happy with it :

I see in your settings you have AA on, is that in game AA or through the GPU? Because if its in game AA I highly recommend to turn it off as it eats like 20fps+ for just 2x at 1080p at your res I bet its allot more than that.

If you use CCC AA then yeh thats cool, but if not then you could turn it off and use that and up a few of your settings :) Or even disable AA completely and put post AA on low I find works quite well and makes it look more real and not too sharp, then you should be able to bump up a few settings, but it looks amazing anyway

Cool, i have heard about this, is it worth doing?
Does it replace the post AA which blurs the screen (which I have on low)

I sctually sometimes find the colours in BF3 sometimes a bit dull, can you change it back after you use the mod? cheers

Vega, the setup looks great in ur other thread, I havent had a chance to watch the viedo yet but looking forward to it. How are the driver issues? I had Eyefinity with 5870 and it was a pain with BFBC2 to get it stable, I spent at least as much time trying to get it to work than actually playing it, and the problem was exacerbated further when I added another 5870 for crossfire into the mix! I gave up and sold the lot but I do miss ultra widescreen gaming :( Is this something AMD have become better with or do u find urself in and out of game more often than u would like?

Bezel haters who have tried Eyefinity are always going to hate bezels even if they make them ultra-thin and transparent. The reality of the siutation is as posted by titaniumx3 above, once u get involved ur brain switches off the bezels, and that was just from him watching the video - this is almost 100% the case in game where u are even more engaged.
