The Sunday Read: The MacKenzie Poltergeist

Where are all the photographs as proof? Presumably nowhere because of this:

"Henderson says that the fire—the cause of which insurance investigators could not identify—destroyed “five years worth of letters, photographs, records and statements concerning the MacKenzie Poltergeist as well as every possession I had in the world"

The way in which the fire has been subconciously linked with something to do with ghouls when infact, there are plenty of other fires where the source can't be found.

Yep, this story has all the makings of a good ghost story.

The initial person (how do they know the guy was homeless?) never found.
A tour now set up, and a book - obviously this tour wouldn't be less popular if nothing happened.
All the evidence disappearing in a fire
etc etc. :p

Good read though, and well presented. Just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it isn't an interesting and enjoyable read.

Thank you, and pretty much my thoughts, too. In all of the paranormal articles I've written I don't think I've ever once said "ghosts exist" or "this place is definitely haunted". Mainly because I've never seen one myself.

Possible to buy this as a PDF or something I can actually read on a non-proprietary device (or software)??

EDIT: Found your original post here, can I still claim a free copy? :)

Got your trust message. :)

Just for reference, you can download the totally free ebook reading software for your PC, Apple thing, tablet or smart phone here. There are so many free (and cheap) ebooks on Amazon, I really recommend getting the software!

Eerie Britain 2 is already in the works! Despite not really having a clue how to market EB 1, I've had a very good response to it (it's going to be reviewed by quite a big national paranormal magazine sometime this quarter).

I just have to find more stories. There are a lot out there, but I want the really interesting or chilling ones fro EB2. I want to make the next ebook longer, too, perhaps twice as long - although I like having the price below £2, to be honest.

I read an article about Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) early last year and thought it was a good way to bypass the traditional publishing route, which is rather swamped with wannabe authors. It's a lot of work, but great to have full control over your whole project.

Interesting "story" but far too long a read for me to remain interested. TBH I'd have crapped myself too if I'd fallen into a bunch of corpses.

Poltergeists, like all other paranormal activities - ghosts, lockness, santa, the abominable snowman and big all, all fictional

Ahh Goodo, gef is a story that has always left me feeling rather odd truth be told. I could never decide if it should be pigeon holed as poltergiest or not as most disturbance aren't accompanied by a physical entity, especially not a mongoose. Always made it more sinister somehow.

Aye, it's a weird one, no doubt about that. I think the strangeness of it comes from the way it refuses to be classified as a possible poltergeist or whatever else it could be. If only there was more 'evidence'. Fantastic tale nonetheless.

As with many of these stories, I personally don't think it matters that much if they are real or not - the macabre and intriguing tales make for great reading. I'd consider 95% of all haunts, legends and mysteries (especially the old ones) to be untruths, but when you do some research into that last 5%, you find some strange - and currently inexplicable - things. Things that you simply cannot dismiss due to the evidence available.

Anyway, if people are interested, I'll do more 'Sunday Reads' in future.

I think I asked you in previous threads but have you done anything on Dartmoor? Probably not much evidence but plenty of stories about big bad dogs, headless horsemen slaying babies etc.

Everything can be dismissed until there's proof, thats how it works, fake until proved true IMO, and I've never seen a ghost lol

Not saying that the story wasn't interesting though, would make a great book or a movie

Cool. I'll try to find an interesting one for the next thread like this.

Dartmoor is rich with old legends. The Horror of the Hairy Hands is one of my ebook's chapters, in fact. Do you know that one? It's a great (and bizarre) story, but in my opinion, almost certainly just a story that has been passed down, modified and embellished. It's a creepy read, though - especially if you recall it while driving alone across the moor!

So these bodies still down there rotting from the plague?

If someone went down there they'd catch the plague right?

I was actually there last weekend and took some photo's but as it was night they have not come out too well in my phone.

The crypt itself is now locked up but you can look in and see the iron gate on the ground that the story refers to. I don't believe in ghosts myself at all but I do find these stories good for a laugh.

The Edinburgh vaults under the city are also a good place to visit but you need to pick the right tour to go on.
