as with a lot of the queens expenses (she spent £250 a week on sandwiches a decade ago according to the sun) the money should go straight to a british work force as it will be built or has been built in gb, i would hope. could be wrong though. tourists will also want to come and see it.

if, however, it's been purchased from abroad, it's a bit much tbh. a statue in a fountain would do.

Doesn't really bother me - £60m is a drop in the ocean in comparison to most things. In perspective, it's 0.18% of what's just been promised to fund the HS2 idea.

Not the wisest choice of government spending when the country is on the brink of yet another recession.
 
I can't see why she cant just have a humble little birthday, she could go to a restaurant and get hammered like everyone else. Why do we need a big parade and billions spent on security, why.... i know, just feed her some pills, save everyone the time and money. Put everyone out of their misery, including her. :D
 
What I find more disturbing is Michael Gove wants this yet its cutting education funding, teachers pensions, he is clueless.

Just seen this on FB "I hear Italy's trying to get rid of a cruise ship on the cheap.". Shouldn't laugh....

They were talking about this on radio4 this morning but I thought it wasn't going to be publicly funded.

Any way BBC website says:
A suggestion by Education Secretary Michael Gove that the Queen should be given a new royal yacht to mark her Diamond Jubilee has been rejected by Downing Street.
