hi im wondering if anyone has seen this before, i guessing its just a faulty card but it seems a little unusual to me and wonder if maybe it was a voltage or bios problem?

anyway ill explain, the card crashes on default clocks, both core and memory, it needs to be clocked down on both by quite a bit or it crashes, it doesnt artifact at all, just locks up and driver crash

it seems perfectly stable at lower clocks
ill upload a pic of the benchmark running if that helps or i duno, thanks in advance!^^

thanks for the replys!
yeh i thought it telling me it need more juice to, i had a 560ti in there before tho, and i oc'd that lots, its a corsair psu, not a huge one like 600 or something(next time i open it ill get for u), i5 750

temps are fine, 50 something during benchmarks with the fan on 30%

im use to when gfx cards are faulty getting artifacts but theres none of that, is there any pci-e voltage or something that could be wrong or maybe anyone else had this with the latest drivers

wow i went to upload a pic for u guys so i loaded up photoshop, all fine i went to open the screenshot and pc rebooted itself, turned the oc off on the cpu, tried again, did the same :P

i been playing tribes on it for past 2 hours without a problem tho, at the lower clocks that is

must be drivers? its super weird tho

So you said its under 600W?

Defo PSU.

can anyone recommend a version of drivers that should be good?

Use the latest drivers. Another, optional, but painfully long one is to do a dummy Windows install on a spare drive to see if it's not a software issue considering you had an Nvidia card in the system before.

Seems odd the problem goes with the card underclocked. Most likely the card is duff, I can't see drivers doing this at one clock speed and not another. Checking gpu temp in gpuz or like could point to a problem. It's also odd that you need to downclock both core and vram though, if there is a temp issue check out the heatsinc as already suggested and make sure the fan is spinning etc you can also raise the PCI-e voltage in your mobo bios (most likely) which may help and other things like reseating the gpu or swopping PCI-E slots if you ahve more than one are always worth doing.

i couldnt see the voltage setting last time i looked i will relook tho, any idea on the safe setting? just bump it up a couple?

i do have another slot but its maybe x8, its a matx board, gigabyte

Drivers.

These new cats are ruddy crap !

yknow if it just turns out to be drivers ill never pfft at anyone who complains about ati drivers again :P about to make a hat out of this card
