Bought this car

It was at going rate for a 2008 golf 1.6 auto with 25k on the clock.

Seller was a friend of a friend. He stated the car has recently had a service at official vw garage and showed me receipt. Also stated that the car has never been in an accident. Basically he faked the service as vw have told me he didn't come in for a service but to fix this....

Which was hit by this...

Now I have an ex crash car and one badly in need of a service.

Here's the issue. I live in the UAE and bought the car here, but paid for it using my British bank account into the sellers British bank account. The seller suddenly moved back to UK after the sale.

What can I do legally or am I stuffed?

Not trying to be awkward but surely everyone looks at a car before they buy?

It's sounds as though it will be difficult to get your money back, good luck.

He paid the going rate for a car that had done 25k miles, not done 25k miles and been involved in a crash.

Assuming it has been repaired properly and serviced properly (bar the one it is due rather than just had), then it's still a 25K car, regardless of the crash.

I'd be annoyed too, but I'd not say he's been conned out of the money, as he still has the car.

Unless of course this is on the UAE equivalent of the UK's VIC register.

If it has been repaired well then what's the problem?

well, the being lied to is a bit annoying but if it's been carried out by a VW dealership, one would assume the work is satisfactory. it's only a door and sill scuff, poss front wing too? it's not like it's been on it's roof.

how did you get the pic of the accident damage, op?

They are the same. You would be amazed at how many of the cars on the road have had paint. It's a majority, not a minority. Only when the car is written off by an insurer does this sort of thing affect the cars value. Clearly this hasnt happened here - it's been repaired by VW themselves. It's as good as it was beforehand, if not better.

The only bad thing here is that he said it had been serviced when it hadn't.

So get it serviced. You've been conned out of the cost of the service and the cost of a service alone.
