Any one got there 7970 underwater yet ?

With the core only blocks they are a nightmare to watercool multi gpu systems as iam planning to crossfire there a no go

Anyway pre-ordered a nickle acteal one and should get my 7970 ordered at the end off the week :D

In what way? I have had core only blocks in SLI and Crossfire rigs and never had a problem. It's even easier now with the multi gpu adapters for certain blocks.

From the universal blocks i've seen they just bothn inputs are straight out the side insted of up and down which would mean tight bends in either tubes or fittings wouldnt it ?

Nope. Now you can buy crossfire/SLI adapters that link the blocks together so that you have no tubing at all between the two blocks. If i remember right Swiftech do them for their own blocks as do Koolance, EK and XSPC. EK do a version of the VGA Supreme HF with the bridge built into the block and you just need a link to join the two blocks.

Another way to do it is by using rotary fittings with a adjustable SLI/Crossfire connector between the blocks.

When i had my multi gpu rigs i used the old fashioned method and used tubing. It was a tightish bend but i had no kinking and the case had a solid side panel so you could'nt see it anyway.

Heres ek's universal blocks in multi gpu with a bridge.

So there more exspensive taking £200 to do two gpu's and you wont be single convert them and the memory and vrm's wont be cooled .......

Where as you can get 2 full cover blocks for £160 and normally you can them sell them on for £30 each.

Which makes them £100 for two once they have been used and sold on, so i could do two series of gpu in the time it makes it worth while to get the Core only blocks as you would re use them not selling them on

Since when does watercooling not "rely on air at some point".

Memory barely gets hot and barely needs cooling, that is a non issue, VRM's can depend, old type vrm's that are fairly inefficient and generate a lot of heat need serious cooling(5870) and the better digi ones or the newer more efficient ones tend to run a LOT cooler. Either way a very low speed fan that you can't hear is more than enough to deal with memory/vrm cooling.

Stop being so anal dude! - you know what I meant ;). You'll still need good air cooling to the graphics in order to use generic vga blocks - i.e. for the lack of VRM and Memory cooling - be that a low rpm fan or not :)

Your right about the shim - Apparantly standard Generic Blocks don't make contact with the 7870 properly hence the shim requirement.

Darn it - I hope the backplates come out soon - I cba installing the block only just to remove it, to install the backplate too!!
