*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I sighed when i logged into the launcher this morning and saw that once again, they postpone another patch.

I love the game currently, but BioWare seriously need to get their act together.

So they should release the patch on time with a known bug that I'd expect to be 'game breaking' as they took the option to postpone the patch?

I do hope that you do not work in software :)

I work with Adobe Suites if you must know, but the continuous delays are getting tedious, which is what my post said, but you decided to jump on it without reading it properly, as i never said they should release a patch that has as you put it, 'game breaking' issues, i said the delays in patching is getting annoying, and it will have consequences as this isn't the first time a patch has been delayed.

unsubbed here also, logged in this morning and logged out after 15mins. I've levelled to 50 once as a sith assassin, doing all the flashpoints, not skipping through narrative and such. Just cant be bothered to see the same planets again. Tried as Republic and its just a mirror of the empire, even the quests are pretty much the same just renamed so far upto Tatooine.
This is utterly untrue.

The quests are completely different for republic & empire.

I'll say it's a shame people have either gotten bored, or haven't taken a liking to the game for whatever reason...

I stopped playing when I finished at my workplace and started looking for a new job. You would think I'd have all the time in the world to play now but my enthusiasm for on-line gaming died on that day. Its just a game.

I was going to post a leaving message on the TDR forum, but at the time I thought I might come back. Also didn't want to look like I was the first to quit and post something negative.

But a week and a half since logging in now and I've decided to cancel. Other real life priorities.

Well either there is no crisis in the game and they're not too worried about losing some subs or they're shooting themselves in the foot...again. Surely they should release something, ANYTHING, before the end of the billing cycle. Just splitting the PvP would be enough and would make some happy enough to sub for a month to see.

Most of the negative comments would apply to any MMO.

People are also talking as if the other P2P mmo's have balanced classes, I really want to know what game they are playing with perfect balance? - because I'm pretty certain it does not exist.

There is plenty of room for improvement I agree, but this game has allot it could offer (all of which isn't too hard to add).

- L50 PVP Bracket.
- High res textures.
- Green glow.
- Improved space combat.
- Swoop/pod racing.
- Pazzak.
- Customisable companion skills.
- More character customisation options.
- AA/texture distance draw distance improvment.
- Guild functionality (Bank/Levels/Capital-ship).
- Arena system.
- More battlezones (Some warzones, other sportzones like huttball, but different sports).
- Free flight space combat - ship visual customisation (this is pretty much player housing)

A fair few of those are in the works, or due in 1.1 or 1.2 - so I'm going to continue the sub.

The PVP is no worse than WoW, the PVE is also as good as WoW (buggier I agree, I recall ICC having a few serious bugs a year after release).

Crafting is no worse than WoW, questing is no worse than WoW.

I'm not sure what game people are comparing it too, only Warhammer on-line had better PVP./

Can't read that at work, have they delayed tomorrow's patch completely then?

Hello everyone! Because we care about ensuring that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ provides you with a consistent and quality game play experience, we will be postponing weekly maintenance this week. Downtime was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 from 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET) to 10AM CST (8AM PST/11AM EST/4PM GMT/5PM CET) and will now occur at a later date due to issues requiring additional testing that have been discovered with the Game Update 1.1 content on the Public Test Server.

These issues were primarily brought to our attention by the diligent players on the Public Test Server Forums. Your participation in testing helps to improve the game as a whole, and we appreciate your discussion and feedback. The bug reports you provide are a valuable part of the development process. Thank you!

We’re working hard to bring you Game Update 1.1: Rise of the Rakghouls and are working hard to ensure your overall experience with Star Wars: The Old Republic is spectacular! The maintenance window for Game Update 1.1 will be rescheduled for some time within the next few days, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When there’s a definite time, we will post here on the forums as well as on the Community Blog. Please keep your eye out for updates, and we will provide information as soon as it’s available.

All of this should have been in the game at launch tbh. Not months afterwards.

If all of that stuff was added i'd be happy i think.

Also some other ideas.

- some sort of Bounty system for PVP, most wanted Republic and Alliance players perhaps. It would add some context to the PvP scenario and could have great potential if it was guild/player controlled.

I.e. player(s)/guild a puts out a bounty on player(s)/guild b.

Players hunt down their targets, eliminate them. Collect the reward. If there were safeguards in place so players couldn''t be abused i think it could work quite nicely.

- Proper pvp space combat, you know with fighter wings (groups) and fleets in general. But that might be asking to much. But games like Star Trek Online have managed to feature both space and ground scenarios so why can't TOR.

- I would one up from the Guild Capital Ship idea and have a guild fleet :). All of those player ships have to have some other use :).

I still very much feel like I'm on rails with TOR. I feel that the whole game is yet to get going. I'll keep playing for now with some optimism but Bioware haven't wow''d me (no pun intended). They've piqued my interest but not grpped my wallet enough so i can't let go.

Ultima Online was pretty balanced :D

Daoc had far superior PvP, but then to be fair, Daoc had far superior PvP to almost all MMOs :)

No item/classed based game will ever truly be balanced.

Also, that's the problem with new MMOs. They are too much like WoW/Other MMOs that it offers nothing different and brings nothing new.

You would think having 5 years development BW would have done their research and implemented the best bits in SWTOR from other games, instead all they have done is create what feels like a co-op game.

UO/EvE online are the only MMO's with PVP worth talking about.

Without a loss mechanic PVP is nothing more than a mindless grind to obtain gear - with no real meaning or care about winning/losing.

Set factions is always a bad idea, which is why I'd approve of a system in which people can swap factions (like you can in EvE) it allows players to sort out the balance problems a little better.

Set factions stops elite guides from switching sides for a challange/prove something to turn the tides - people should be able to fall to the dark-side/light-side & therefore change faction (within the game lore) - it would have to be very expensive/hard/time consuming & have a long cooldown (months) but there is no reason to not allow faction changes.

All the classes are mirrors anyway - so it's not like it's going to effect balance - hell, if they allowed it - it would actally mean they could make all the classes a little more different (as both factions would access to them - group pvp would still be balanced).

I never really got into the order/chaos thing, used to run about chasing people around instead :D

bank guards vendor recdu recsu !

I was more into the Factions - SL/CoM/Minax/TB. 24 hour holds for town control, epic fights and raids. I had many sleepless nights back then.,

Also, the PKing was awesome - had so many choices in that game where anything was possible.

I think it depends how the PvP is implemented. I mean although Daoc was factional with no personal losses as such, I found that the players REALLY cared about winning/losing in that.
