Hi guys,

Im looking at replacing my little 1.2 clio with something abit bigger and newer.

Cant decide on what to go for though, an I really need to as I probably wont start saving until I do.. :(

Currently im torn between the jump to the renautsport clio,

or getting a more sensible grown up car thats still quick, like the Astra 1.9 CDti SRI, or Seat Lean Cupra 1.9.

Then there is the Honda civic 1.6 vetch sport which could save me some money.

What do you guys think and can you suggest any other good cars that i've overlooked? (I'd love an Alfa but dont think I could afford to maintain one if anything went wrong).

Cheers guys

John

182, you'd be mad not to ;)

on a serious note, you really would and here's why:
1. better mpg than your 1.2 (I average 34, 46 on motorway).
2. you can actually overtake cars

There's a ton of reasons as to why i'd recommend one, but go and test drive those cars you've mentioned and you'll see why.

If you want a fun car, get a 1*2 (182/172), if you want a less fun car get something else.

People will probably flame me for that, but the reality is unless you've actually driven one you won't know what I'm talking about.

For any advice, google Clio Sport and you'll come across a tidy forum with tons of help and you'll then know what to look out for if you do decide to look for one!

They are cracking little cars if what you want to do every day is go out and chuck it around, will keep up with all sorts on track with just a few minor mods. Some people don't like the fact that they are fairly raw and constantly demand a beating....personally I love them (despite never owning one, a mate had a 182 for 3years though and now has a 197). Definately a car that you want to be buying a good example of though, many tired ones around now.

The civic sport is a nice looking thing but really really lacks any sort of go, of that's ultimately what you're after you'll be disappointed. If looks are more a priority they make sense though

I do like the clio. I hear all the clios can suffer with electrical faults, (mine hasn't been to bad that said, just not liking to start every now and again) and I did fall prey to the bonnet catch issue the other day, fortunatley wasnt going to quick tho :) (Bonnet catch issue doesnt put me off the 182 btw)

The is one for sale just down the road so I might have to go check it out.

I dont want a car to cruise around in, I want to push it through the corners an have some fun, and yes I want to be able to overtake without having to think is this straight long enough lol.

My girlfriend wants me to get a five door an her dad works for vauxhall so I could have parts at cost on the astra, but I should get what I want really shouldn't I lol

As for the civic I was wonding if the 1.6 would be underpowered, an looks wise I rate the 182s as highly if im honest.

Not thought bout that I guess bout 10,000 a year.
You don't need a diesel.

You don't want a diesel. You already know you want a 182.

My wife had an EP3 1.6 Civic Sport. It's was all mouth an no trousers, don't think for one second they have any kind of poke because they really don't.

1.6 sport is EP2. EP3 is the 2.0 Type-R.

Fuel economy isn't great in the EP2, insurance will be high for what it is and there are a lot of very tired examples about. Again if you are going for a civic 7th gen I recommend the type-s (EV1). 5 doors, 160bhp 2.0 I-Vtec comes with cruise control, air con, VSA, half leather and returns mid 40s on a motorway run. My average on a 15 mile A/B road with twisties and hills is 34mpg.

still dont get the love for diesels..if you are doing low miles in a small car a small petrol engine is going to be just as economical

do small diesels have problems with DPF's if all they do is short journeys?

I just look at the small capacity turbo petrols avilable these days..VAG's 1.2 tsi and fiat/alfas 1.4 multi air and think they must be much more fun than a low revving diesel.

a peppy little petrol will surely still keep you awake on a crappy commute..I used to love the 1.25 engines you got in fiestas

hell, look at the mito cloverleaf..170 bhp and only 115 quid a year to tax
