Hi Folks,

I'm new to the forum.

Really wanting an overclocked system although could you guys reassure me regarding the longevity of doing this.

Scott

Well going by previous standards, I had my old Q6600 setup for 5 years and it still going strong, just in someone elses hands. What price are you looking at spending?

Aslong as you dont go silly on volts etc, an overclocked system will last you till you need to sell it on :)

I had an old Athlon64 3700+ (the San Diego single-core) going at 2.9GHz and 1.6 volts for five years, never had an issue with it. While it is true that overvolting will decrease the lifetime, in essence it means that you might get ten years instead of twenty. Depending on your particular unit it could be less.

Looking at this...

Mostly for Photoshop and a bit of gaming. Is it OTT?

Nice system, very suitable for photostop. Can I ask, whats your budget? Once you know your budget (and we do), get an admin to move it to the general hardware or you can create a new thread and let our experts sort you out.

Would you like a pre-built system or do you mind building it yourself?

Nice system for photoshop, only thing I would change there is the graphics card to a Nvidia one that photoshop likes or any new GTX 5xx one as they can all be hacked to make use of Cuda acceleration. It is a registry hack the article below explains how.

Have a read here about Nvidia cards and photoshop.
