The Brass gromet thing...

Case: Corsair 500R Carbide

So I was just putting in the brass gromet and wondered, do I put one for every hole for ATX motherboards? Those with this case may know what I mean when I mention that there's "raised bump"; would I need to a gromet here? Also, should all screws be screwed into the motherboard? There's one I missed out (middle-far right hole) on an Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 motherboard. However, the motherboard itself isn't moving.

This is my very first build, so all help is appreciated. :)
 
There should be 9 screws for an ATX mobo I believe, unless your particular one misses one. Is there some smaller standoffs than others? These will be for the raised parts I imagine.

Sorry I don't have this case so may be talking rubbish!
 
Nah, the only thing to worry about is having a spacer that does not correspond with a hole, as it can cause a short and potentially murder your motherboard.

The raised one should be there,no need to add anything other than the motherboard on top.
 
Depends on the reason for it not reaching. If the board needs to bend to make it reach the standoff, then something has been put in wrong. Got a pic of the ones you have put in?
 
Err nope. I basically place my motherboard in missing out that one gromet. Seems to stand fine. Me and my dad were having a hard time with the IO Shield though:

It looks slightly off, but I can actually fit the USB in perfectly fine. Is it normal for there to be a slight between the IO shield and the mother board?

I've had a look on mine since I have the same case and motherboard, it looks fine to me. The PS2 port is slightly recessed, so it looks a bit wonky, but it's actually fine.

I didn't have any problems aligning the motherboard with the IO plate and stand offs. It went pretty snug actually. I would try to reseat the board if you feel it's not quite right. You should have 9 stand-offs, in rows of three, and it should align pretty much perfectly. It's a five minute job :)

You can get away with some stand-offs missing, although some of them act as ground for the motherboard.

Am I right putting in the brass gromets on the top three bumps of the motherboard? It seems to elevate the top part of the board, I'm not sure whether the bottom part of the mobo is lowered
 
I didn't put any gromets / stand-offs at all. The 500D comes with preset stand-offs, which are standard ATX configuration, like for the Extrem4 Gen3. my board is perfectly aligned at the back, and 'clicked' into place.
 
No, the brass stand offs don't go into the raised mounts, from what I believe all the standoffs you need are already there, all you do is put down the motherboard on the raised sections, screw them in and that is it.

The extra standoffs you get I believe are for M-ATX boards.

Ok top tip if you havent done so already is to seat the CPU, heatsink and RAM before you fix the mobo to the chassis.

I don't have that case but what the guys are saying is that there are standoffs already in place. So when you lower the mobo in they should line up with the holes so you can screw it down. Because the case can take different sized mobos you have "extra" brass standoffs so you can change the config to fit a smaller mobo......i hope that makes sense

I don't own a 500r but you don't need to use the brass standoffs/grommets.

You place the motherboard down on the 9 raised holes then screw through the motherboard into them. So put the little brass standoffs back in the bag and ignore them :)

Yes, you rest the motherboard on it and screw through the holes in the motherboard with the screws provided in the bag.

That's how you secure the motherboard inside the case. The holes in the motherboard have a small, few mm ring around the holes, that aren't connected electrically iirc to the rest of the motherboard so you don't short anything.

If these raised bumps you refer to are what you have in your pics......that is a "ready made" standoff the mobo sits on then is screwed down to.

If you look closely there will be holes (which might be labelled mATX). These are where you would but these "extra" brass standoffs. Seeing as your mobo is ATX you don't need to add any of these "extra" standoffs at all! They are just included with the case to allow you to fit different sized mobos

didn't made myself clear, but what is said above it true. The stand-offs / gromets are already pre applied, all you should have needed to do is drop the motherboard into the case, and screw the motherboard to the gromets', which are already in place. Then it should aligned to the motherboard backplate, and the 9 gromets should align with the 9 holes in the motherboard.
 
OK so I did what was suggest; 3 screws on top row (on elevated bumps), middle row and bottom row. Thank you.

I hope no one would mind, but to avoid starting numerous threads, I'm just going to use this thread to post my build questions. If possible, can a moderator change the title of this thread to "RadicalCookie build in progress" or something similar.

Now I've been fishing through the case wires and noticed this:

A 1934 wire, but what is it and where does it go?
 
1394 is firewire and the plug is to connect the front panel firewire port to the motherboard, it plugs in at the bottom under the PCI slot

It is header 32 in the manual.
