My wife signed up for a HTC Desire S back in June through mobiles.co.uk (I know, I know! :p) but since then she has had all sorts of problems with her phone randomly resetting and crashing.

Upon speaking to mobiles.co.uk they say take it into a Carphone Warehouse and they will send it off for repairs! (even though the staff in CPW seem to detest mobiles.co.uk!)

The phone has been in 3 times for the same faults and quite frankly I'm at the end of my teather with it!!

Rang mobiles.co.uk and they say they cant issue a replacement but rather that decision falls to CPW but my argument is that we took out the contract with mobiles and NOT CPW!!! (sale of goods act and all that!)

I'm awaiting a call back from a manager tomorrow to see where we go from here!

Has anyone had a similar situation with these companies and have any advice on how to proceed?

Thanks for any advice guys.........

3 times with the same fault or similar faults? Devil is in the detail here.

The first time it went back it was because it was randomly resetting itself with an "abnormal reset", the second time was the same fault plus the display had started to corrupt itself and the third time was the same plus the display would become frozen - so yes, the same fault plus other additional, different, faults each time!

I've already asked mobiles.co.uk for a new replacement but they are passing the buck to CPW and every time we have been in they basically dont want to have anything to do with mobiles.co.uk - in fact they barely acknowledge that they are part of the same group!

I'm 95% sure that all they will say is that they will send it off for repair.....again!

The annoying thing is that both companies must have hundreds of Desire S's lying around in their respective warehouses and yet they are still being ***** about it!

Just replace the damn thing will you!!!!:mad::mad:

Sorry I meant would they replace it with a less problematic model?

I'm not really familiar with htc phones as there are so many to choose from but you may be able to say something like

"This is the 3rd one of these phones I've had, could you replace it with a more reliable model?" or something similar...

Good luck I hope you get it sorted :)

Ask for a different model replacement as the device has shown the same error all 3 times (don't bring up the other errors just yet). CPW and Mobiles.co.uk are the same company obviously so it's not like they are asking you a lot but you are in your rights to ask them to assist you over the phone and ask them why they will not help you over the phone if they again refer you to the store. You can remind them of their obligations under the distance selling regs if you're feeling feisty.

Desire S seem to be incredibly poor quality, there are known bugs with the current software release, and there are known faults that occur time and time again (such as the signal dropping problem).

Girlfriend only kept hers (including two replacement handsets in that time) for three months before we ditched it and bought something else to continue using her contract SIM in.

Awful, awful phone, which is a real shame as I personally like the size and shape.

Yeah, the missus really likes the size and weight of the Desire S - we have been in to the shop today and they are apparently out of stock at the returns warehouse but did offer either the Samsung Galaxy S, the HTC HD or the Google Nexus (although obviously not the new one!)

Trouble is my wife doesnt like how big they all are and would rather wait to see if the Desire S comes back in stock!

Oddly, the HD and the Galaxy S were the two phones offered to my GF. We took the Galaxy S (big mistake, it's bloody terrible, poor quality and just as many faults as the Desire S), then sold that.

From then on she used my old Nexus One (original Nexus), which IMO is still far and away the best built Android handset. Now she is on an HTC Radar (Windows Phone 7), which IMO is an incredible phone for the price, and very well built. Windows phone is also now mature enough to be a decent alternative to Android (even moreso if you don't want to play with ROMs and launchers and just want to use the phone as-is).

She loves it, and wouldn't switch back now (I also have one as my 2nd handset).

I'm getting a bit confused with the alternatives offered by CPW!?!?!

I'm sure they said the HTC HD - not a viable option due to it being mahoosive! The Galaxy S - The missus isnt keen on the look or the "Google Nexus" - now this is where things get a bit misty for me - is there a simple "Google Nexus" or is it the Samsung Google Nexus or the Nexus S!?!?!?

Can anyone give me a quick run-down of the various "Nexus" models??

Google Nexus One (as in my photo above) - Came first. Made by HTC and is essentially an original Desire. Fantastic build quality, but not worth buying now as it's too old.

Nexus S - Came second. Made by Samsung and is essentially a Galaxy S (original). If this has half the problems of the Galaxy S then it will drive you mad. Wouldn't touch another Samsung built device if you paid me.

Galaxy Nexus - Current gen. Made by Samsung, and is essentially the Galaxy S2 HD (not yet released, not planned for the UK market). This is one mahoosive phone, far larger than the Desire HD.

I hate Carphone Warehouse/Mobiles.co.uk!

Having drafted a long complaint letter and sending it to the "High Level Complaints Department" - we finally got a letter of reply from them today basically saying - too bad, you either have your's repaired (again!) or pick from the Samsung Galaxy S or the Samsung Nexus S (reconditioned) as a replacement!

Now given the ****-poor job they have done in repairing my wife's Desire S, I'm less than enamoured with the prospect of taking another phone that has been in "for repair" with them before!

I've basically replied quoting the sale of goods act (must be fit for purpose etc) and asking for the MD's contact details to take the matter further!

Is there anything else I can do to get a better outcome on this???

I'm astounded that they dont just want to source a new handset to get rid of the problem! They must have hundreds of new Desire S's lying around!

if you have to choose get the nexus s runs ice cream sandwhich after you update it and that runs very well on it no bloat to slow the phone as its vanilla. I had a galaxy s for a week before returning it, worst lag i ever experienced in a phone and the gps was awful.

To be honest I'm not keen on either of the alternatives offered, mainly due to the fact that they are reconditioned which surely means that they are phones that have been sent back for being faulty and "repaired"!?!?

Given how **** the repairs have been on the HTC, I'm inclined to say they might be just as bad!

I got my Desire S through Mobiles.co.uk back in July, and the first handset I got refused to switch on, charge basically do anything. Took it straight to CPW and they just replaced it there and then. Suppose that's because it was only a couple of days old though.

My Desire S seems well built, and doesn't have any issues despite being on the newest software. :)

Still getting rid for a 4S though.

Yeah, we should have insisted on a new replacement as soon as it reset itself for the first time but it didn't look like a big problem and unfortunately it got worse to the point where it is unusable!

I just wonder where I go from here when the "High Level Complaints Department" basically refuse point-blank to do anything about it!

The only problem with the Galaxy S is the absolutely atrocious Samsung Android roms that are available for it. They are all appalling, extremely slow and questionably ugly.
Put a decent custom rom on there and it's great.

I don't understand Samsung with the Galaxy S, they had released a great phone at the time, but it's like they intentionally wanted to make it utterly ****.
