Hey all as most of you will have read bout the ipad 3 rumours all over the net i am in a little pickle.

Do I get a ipad 2 now or wait for the ipad 3?
I do have a iphone 4 not a 4s not to fussed about the 4s kinda same thing maybe?

Only use for the ipad will be mail, internet watching films, not anything major that I can think off.

You may say Iv answered my own question but hey main reason I am asking is i can get the ipad2 from orange £30 month and free ipad 2.

or do i wait for the next best thing?.....

sorry for being plain!

£30 pounds a month but for how long?

There's no reason why you can't wait for the ipad3 to come out then get yourself a cheaper ipad2. Like with any apple products there's always rumors but till it hit the shops or been announced by apple, I don't wait with bated breath.

Do you actually want 3G? Even if you do, you can get it for £7.50 a month from Three - if that deal you mention is two years, that's £720!

If you got a 16gb 3G iPad, and used the £7.50/month Three sim for the full two years, it'd be £679, so the 'free' iPad's not free at all, but you are tied to paying for the iPad, and their service for two years.

Do you want to be tied to it for two years when it's not only about to be replaced, but was replaced almost two years ago?

Start saving for the iPad 3, that's what I'm doing. Was waiting for the quad core android tablets to come out so the performance would be to my liking, however the app store and a few other reasons are making me choose the iPad 3, which "should" be quad core as well.

At least if you start saving now you should be able to buy it outright rather than paying over the odds for a contract.

£30 per month for a data only deal? Over what term? Sounds quite expensive to me.

The rumour mill will forever be grinding away, so if you want it now, get it now.

If you're considering spending £30 PM just to own one it sounds like you potentially don't have the money to just buy one, and the sensible thing would be just to wait until you can. Who knows, the next iPad may be available then.

That would be £30 a month over 2 years, its an expensive way of going about it. Especially due to the deal you get with Orange for that £30.

Either way you go about getting an iPad, I would recommend holding off at this point (as i'm doing the same)

Although the iPad 2 impresses me I think it will be amazing if/when it gets the retina display and i personally would not want one before then

Definitely wait. Rumours suggest a February release for the iPad 3, and that they will be keeping the iPad 2 on sale for a discounted price.

I wanted to get an iPad 2 for my Christmas but instead decided to hold off as the rumours suggest the iPad 3 will be well worth it if true.

All the talk is of a Q1 launch so that’s anytime now to the end of March.

It's probably worth waiting approx 6-8 weeks to see what the iPad 3 looks like.
Expect very high demand = short supply and potentially increased prices though.

"Rumours", yeah. Actual technology sites I've read suggest the iPad 2 will not be discounted when the iPad 3 is launched, and that the 3 will be more expensive than the 2.

Who are also writing such stories based on rumours.

I'd definitely wait at this stage. Wanted one at Christmas but I decided to hold off until the next release, which will hopefully be late March or early April. There will obviously be heavy demand but if they handle pre-orders like they did with the 4S, it should be okay.

another one waiting for iPad 3 here, kinda makes sense to me at this stage

may preorder though as getting a 16g 4s sim free proved difficult for me and I had to splash out on a 32g model

oh and that's a first post from me so hello :)

The iPad 2 is awesome. Personally I would just buy it, but if you really think you will regret it if a new one is released in a couple of months then your probably buying for the wrong reason anyway ie that short lived fast waring buzz of owning new tech rather than what the tech does.

Pop into an Apple shop and have a play with one, open the browser, mail, eBooks, games, apps then make a decision based on how your likely to use it too much difference would a potentially higher res screen make to you?

The rumours are they are going to be keeping the ipad 2 anyway at a slightly lower price point. That suggests to me they cannot make the ipad3 work at the current price point. So they will up the price of the ipad 3 and keep the 2 at a cheaper option.

I'm waiting on a 3 specs now tbh. I already have an ipad 1 though.

I would wait rumours is march.

They need a 128gb version.

As these new text book on ibooks2(look absolutely sweet and very functional) can be 3GB. Now I'm way out of school. But imagine on of them for other stuff. Want to dabble in electronics, or a company wants to make an instruction manual.

I think I read somewhere that the supposed idea behind this rumour was a response from Apple to the challenges by other tablet makers offering cheaper products. So Apple respond by having two tiers of pricing; first tier is the newest and therefore most expensive iPad for the fans and then the second tier offers the previous generation iPad 2 at a lower price and so tempts people without the cash for the newest generation or those who want to get started with a tablet but aren't sure where to start.

Note I'm not saying that Apple is losing its market share but I think the rumour was suggesting that Apple were going to do this to shore up and protect its market share in case Android tablets suddenly took off like Android phones did.

I'm waiting for the ipad 3 however I hope that it's really not going to be more expensive that existing ipad 2.

I don't think Apple want it to be more expensive but the component cost of the retina screens could force their hand.

Apple could still charge more for it and sell every one they make of course as people will still pay it. They have some room to manouvre aswell as it's not like the Android competition is markedly cheaper.
