My rear tyre is almost gone, although could probably get another few months out of it, as don't do much riding despite it being my only transport.

Currently it's got a
120/90/17/m Bridgestone battlax BT45
It's a xj900F 1991 maybe h reg but import, not entirely sure as its an import. The blue white silver one.

What would you guys recomend as I have no idea, and what sort of cost are we talking about.
Also is that correct tyre size as its so old, who knows what people have done to it.

Also does anyone know.
The clock resets every time the ignition is switched off, I assume it has a small back up battery which has died, but I can't see any obviuse opening on the back of the dials.

Also the petrol tank indicator is naff. Full is about 2/3rd Totaly empty is 1/3rd, is this likely to be just the sensor.

Well I got a new second hand fuel sender.

However as I have to take the tank of and drain it. The inside is rusty.

What's the best treatment to do on it?
Apparently it's already been treated but who knows and as I have to take it off anyway. I might as well make sure.

Have a look at the Bilt Hamber Deoxy C kit which is designed for exactly this purpose.

Did you find a rear tyre for your bike? Are they definitely 17", as a quick search shows the pre-diversion XJ900 had 18" rims? Choice is very limited for older bikes with narrow rear tyres, but the BT45 is still available. If the front is already a BT45 and you aren't changing it then this is probably your best option as you'll at least retain a matched set.

If you are going for a matched pair see if you can get Pireilli Sport Demons in the sizes you require, these are excellent tyres for older bikes.

Thanks, will double check wheel size.

Once the rust is clear do you not need to put some sort of sealer in?

Changed some bulbs in the dials yesterday, so at least I can see what speed im going at night.

Thanks again, stored in a garage now. So shouldn't be an issue.

Just some of the minor nigeling problems from when I bought it.

Have not read the thread, only the last 2 posts, need a wee and I will forget this if I don't post it now.

Get your tank water treated, if you can take the tanks shell your self (as in remove tank, take out all the gubbins) it will cost pennies.

I got it done to my 748 when the engine was being rebuilt. I sleep safely knowing if I leave the tank half full for a month it will be much better protected.

Where would you get it water treated? It's a not a great bike, so don't want to spend to much on it. Just the easy fixes which will make life easier.

Anyone good with wiring diagrams? And why the digital clock would reset to midnight when ignition is off. There's no battery.

Anyone tell me what each of the three wires should be reading on a digital meter to see if the wiring is correct.

Black = Ground
Red = Permanent 12v
Brown = Ignition switched 12v

Check the 9 way connector that joins the instrument wiring loom to the main loom. Connectors in this area very commonly get corroded on older bikes.
