*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

Robosprog wrote exactly what I mean. There are plenty of other people who would like to be admins (I would hate to be one), but basing a choice on past admin experience is a bit strange to me. But like Robo said, I can't be one to judge :p

And FrenchTart, I am calm XD

Fair enough. I was perhaps a little aggressive in my defence but tbh the last few weeks have worn me down a bit.

It's not basing it on any old random admin experience but admin experience where the person has already worked directly with one or more admins already on the server. The other things it is based on are things like general maturity, patience, whether or not that person is part of a clique on the server, etc. Finally, it's also important that the new admin will fit in with the current admin team dynamic.

So Admin friends of other admins get to be admins on this server? :p

They're probably a good choice as long as they meet all the other requirements of being an admin. I don't believe that satisfying just one of the criteria is enough for the person to be automatically an admin, of course :)

Admin experience is negligible (imho) it's all about personality, in the sense; the person has to be mature, able to function under pressure and available. Also, common sense is required, coupled with a good understanding of the rules.

Can I ask a question in response to the admin appointment? Is there a selection process? Can people put themselves forward or are you head hunting?

/re your first paragraph... I agree completely in regards to people needing to be mature, able to deal with pressure, not throw tantrums, etc. The time that other admin experience comes into it is when I have personally seen the other person do all of those things...during their other admin experience.

We tend to head hunt rather than have the players put themselves forward. Of course we will take on board anything that people have said, so putting yourself forward wouldn't count against you.

Yes she was born in Sweden I believe but has been in the UK for many years.

She was born in the nether and raised by pigmen, at some point she was found by FT who showed her through a portal to Minecraftia and taught her admin skills as best he could.

I firmly accept that seeing other admins 'in action' can often have a massive say in things and it's welcome experience it's not needed.

Certain serves require different approaches, I've been an admin on many servers on many games but something like this would be completely different.

Being an admin on any server can be stressful. It's about dealing with the stress. If you've been bombarded with issues, easiest thing to do it just make a list of things to do. Deal with each one in order.

Unless it needs attention straight away you might as well make a list, get a cup of tea and start trawling though them :)

Big congrats to Safron on becoming admin.
As for the people complaining the reasons I believe she will be a great admin are below.

Very friendly person

Always treats people fairly (they treat her good she treats then good) but will put foot down if needed and wont take any &^%$

Very active

Has lots of knowledge on the game

Has a sense of humor

Honestly if people have a problem with someone that has the above quality's they need head examined.

With regards to the map getting extended. The 1.7 will be getting deleted in future at some point and this will free up lot room for expansion. Logic states FT will probably wait until after this to prevent overloading the server. I think most people would rather have a cramped server than an unstable one.

Enchanting script

The script I wrote it is on linktart forum.

Well said.

hey got into a chat with other over new biome changes and land changes
When a new biome or changes to the biome code is done you dont need new land
for it to work. Only when it is a physical change like the new Jungle will you need new land generated.

Was not sure if anyone knew this already or not. but just to let peeps know

That is true, however a side effect of the new biome code is that it changes which areas of an existing map are defined as snow areas. This means that once the server is updated you could quite easily end up with snow falling in places that were previously deserts, mountains, plains, forests etc, so you will end up with snow covering everything and water freezing in these areas. Conversely, areas which are currently taiga forests or snow regions may not necessarily get snowfall, so the taiga forest will never become snowy for example. Also will probably get odd looking borders for any newly generated chunks.
