*Review* Qpad MK-85 LED Pro Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Coming from a scissors keyboard, which type of switch do you think would be best? I assume red cherry mx switches due to the light touch being similar to the short actuation on scissors kb, but have no where I could try the different versions out before buying :( I play only FPS games.

I'm waiting for my MK-85 with browns to arrive, and I'm coming from a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (scissor switches). I'll let you know the differences. :)

woohoo received mine finally. Quite different from my Logitech Illuminated keyboard. Noisier, more key travel, less flat on the desk, smaller, lighter action, less tactile bump, very nice quality and feel. The tactile bump of the brown, although present, is hardly noticeable, at least for me and my ham-fisted approach to typing. Might as well have gone red.

Looks and feel very sturdy. the braided cable is massive. Illumination is very bright, it's at minimum and perfectly adequate. More of a fluorescent hue, then goes to really bright.

That's a bloody nice looking keyboard! I feel like selling off my Filco and getting this, but I'm not a big fan of red switches...

Does NKRO work all the time? It's perhaps the only thing that's preventing me from shifting from the old standard PS/2 port to USB for keyboards.

I've opted for the Steelseries 7G instead.
Alghough the MK-85 appears to be brilliant, I can't see why I would spend an extra £60 on it, over the 7G.

Sure it has backlighting and some cooler features but the lack of PS/2 would bug me.

You can order from the qpad website with any cherry switches you want. That's how I got the browns (steady...!).

Took about a week to arrive (order was processed fast, got stuck at the airport, and then shipped fast it arrived at Heathrow). Qpad responded to my 'where's my stuff' inquiry very quick.

Havent tested NKRO yet.

Yes, no PS2. Backlight is essential for me, I live in a cave.

Thanks for the review. I'm slowly coming round to the idea of buying a mechanical keyboard, just have to wait until I have some spare cash to justify dropping £100+ on one :)

Yes, NKRO works all the time. It is the only keyboard to offer NKRO through USB.

Just finished a G400 review for anyone interested in a mouse to go with their new keyboard :) http://www.gamersedge.co.uk/2012/01/logitech-g400-review/

Nice review of the G400. Big fan of the MX518, which I still use at work.

IIRC the Sidewinder X4 has NKRO through USB, but it's not mechanical. BTW I can confirm it's face-roll friendly (I have made a little program for that :)) Problem is, I don't have enough hands but I've recorded over 12 simultaneous keys. At least it's nice to know it's never gonna be an issue.

Still looking through the macro software for RibTickler.

Essentially yes, like the Corsair K series keyboards, they use 20+ key roll over. The technology is basically the same for those 2, they use a non Windows HID driver to achieve this. I agree though that it is a little bit of marketing as the difference between 20 and N is just for boasting rights.

Could anyone kind enough tell me ALL the differences between the MK-85 and the MK-80? The only difference I can find is the LED backlighting colour and no macro features on the MK-80

Bit of a necro, but why the hell not...

BUG : MK85 doesn't work with the Z68 Extreme4 UEFI bios.

Qpad talked to AsRock and they sent me a motherboard bios to test my MK85 with my Z68 Extreme4.

Gonna try it this weekend, although I don't like flashing motherboards when I don't need to, but that's good service :) Ask and ye shall receive.

My Qpad MK85 just broke :( after 4 months. Heavy use though

The issues i had with this keyboard:
*Windows key doesn't work if you wish to use macro's on desktop.
*Unnessary noise created from the audio jacks thus making them useless as when you plugged the speakers/mic directly into PC they were fine.
*Sometimes a key which get constatly detected after just been pressed

I mean it's still a good keyboard but the bottom 2 shouldn't happen on a premium keyboard.

My backlights broke & before hand i experienced flickering every other day recently; i suppose thats fault related though.
