Evening!

I installed Eden thinking it would give me DTS-HD audio. I found no extra options in the menus over 10.1 Dharma. The only options were "DTS capable receiver" but this is in both 10.1 and 11.

So... have I missed something? Does Eden support DTS-HD or not?

If not... what does and what's the best setup without having 40 million codecs and packs installed?

I am not sure if ATV2 is powerful enough to decode 1080 and DTS-HD. I seems to get stutter in some films if its 1080 and DTS.

preety sure he doesnt mean he has it on ATV2 ( which i must i am liking a lot after using it 2 weeks) think he has a htpc

Not till AudioEngine is in im afraid :(
Best you will get atm is DTS-Core and TrueHD > LPCM.

Ahh... Could you explain this to me a little please if you have a spare moment?

Do you think I will notice the difference when I switch over to DTS-HD from what I am on currently?

Cheers again.

I don't think you want to actually decode it do you Buchanan0204?
You just want XBMC to allow passthrough to your receiver?

Try these steps

Yes bitstreaming is what I'm after. My knowlege really is lacking in the audio department. Just looking to playback my ripped blurays with the best audio possible via XBMC.

The blurays are a full rip and not compressed in anyway.

Have you followed these steps yourself and can confirm they work Rob?

Cheers?

As Venares the best I can get out of the system at the mo is TrueHD audio and thats not on all files. I didn't know that the audioengine hadn't been completed yet, I know that it is still in testing but I thought apart from a few silent bugs with regards to AMD cards and some sync issues I thought it was ok.

Hmmm I'll have a play with the latest overnight build tomorrow because they have been testing the HD-MA passthrough.

I'll let you know Buch

That would be great tah. Is it still worth following the tutorial you linked too?

Will this audio engine be a part of XBMC or does it run in the background?

The AudioEngine is part of XBMC. I would definately install the high def codecs if you haven't done yet.
But the pre-eden settings it describes are pretty obvious. Its all the the audio output part of settings. just making sure you've ticked all the receiver options.

Will get back to you later after I've attempted some testing.

Roger that :)

Thanks. I tried this tonight with 10.1 already installed. Updated the drivers, codecs and C++ but I do not have the same array of options under my audio device as it shows in step 3 (I am using HDMI from my Nvidia card to a Denon 2311), and Step 5 throws some error messages when I try to run the .exe.

Not quite sure what the issue is here, would it be my hardware? (Asus eee box)

Bear in mind that not all HDMI outputs are compatible with DTS-HD. handy table by renethx at AVS forums here:

Yup, from looking at your screenshot it appears your soundchip does not support TrueHD or DTSHD.

Just to confim, I've checked out the Asus Eee box and its an ION device so will never be able to stream HD audio.
BUT, all hope is not lost as it will happily decode HD audio (currently only TrueHD but will support DTSHD with AudioEngine when its done) to LPCM which will sound just as good.
You just dont get that cool Master Audio light on your amp.

Thanks guys. I suspected as much. Spent half the day googling it but couldnt find anything conclusive, I read that ION2 supported it..

but after installing countless codecs and drivers nothing changed.. other than quite a few Windows crashes.. Ill restore the previous build and stop tinkering until Audioengine is done.

really appreciate the help!

GT520 eats HD for breakfast :D

Shame I can't experience XBMC with proper HD audio :( Defeats the whole point IMO.

I would need to jump through forty hoops to get it working.

P.S. Can you recommend a good player that will produce HD audio and will sound the way it is supposed to? WMP-HC? What settings should I be using?

I have the front left/right/centre and the sub hooked up to a DTS-HD capable amp. Sony STR-DN1000.

Yeah same for me.. but unless I want to replace this eeebox I think I will have to wait, as I doubt there are any other HD compatible cards with the same form factor as the ION. I will try to stream through my BDP instead, but last time I checked it didnt support MKVs..
