Hey,

Well I've just put together a new setup with the following spec:

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard
Intel i5 2500k
Geforce 560ti 2048MB
8GB crucial ballistix tactile tracer.

Now, the problem:

I managed to install windows but now for some reason the system gets to the loading operating system screen and then just reboots. It keeps doing this over and over...

I can't boot the CD because it tries to get the loading operating system first. It's odd because ocasionally it will boot in to Windows but 90% of the time this isn't happening.

I've updated to the F6 BIOS revision.

Does anyone have any idea what can be the cause?

Even with the boot order set to boot from cd-rom first?

Stock cooler or after market btw?

Well it installed.... but then I realised that it had put a system partition on to my SSD which I don't want. So I need to reinstall it again.

I've taken one stick of Ram out and it appears to have allowed me back in to the Windows installer...

@Shadesofgrey:

Yes, Even with boot order set to CD-Rom it will jump straight to loading operating system then do a reboot. Watercooled system.

How odd, doesn't give you the option of pressing a button to boot from CD even?

I asked about if it was a stock cooler or not because I often see advice being given that if you over do the tightness of the CPU cooler it can warp the board and mess with your ram as a result.

Maybe worth thinking about if messing with your ram seems to be helping somewhat.

Well with just the one stick in, it has let me get past the loading operating system a few times now.... thinking that I may have a faulty stick of ram! Whats the best way of testing this as it's brand new from today?

And the option to load from the CD rom comes after the loading operating system strangely... and obviously with it rebooting straight away it wasn't getting chance to get to asking me.

And as to the overtightening.. I don't think that will be the problem as there is a back plate on the motherboard that came with the water block to stop that from happening.

Increase the ram voltage, I have the Gigabyte Z68P-UD3P with 16GB Kingston. Continually reboots until setting the ram voltage to 1.6v. Rock solid ever since.

Try all ram one stick at a time in the same slot?

Not sure how a back plate would stop you from overtightening tho :)

Well it all works with one stick, but not the two. I notice it is at DRAM Voltage 1.512V. I have set this to 1.6V but it doesn't seem to change it to this value? Am I changing the wrong setting?

Doesn't work with all the RAM in... kind of works a bit with one... all related to RAM.

Yet... no one has told him to download and burn memtest 86+ and boot from it?

Well... with the exception of post #11

Test your ram :)

You may need to press a key combo to access all the BIOS options. I think it's [CTRL] + [F1] on the main BIOS page to access all the options. Then make sue after changing you exit with [F10] save changes.

You may need to set voltage adjustments to manual and make sure you turn off any auto clocking features etc.

Also see if any EMP profiles are listed in the memory settings as they may help with stability.

I was quite surprised how fussy board was, I kept getting 'failed due to overclocking' settings and the memory reset to 1333mhz when I was just trying to set the board to the rated setting of 1600mhz on the DDR.

Now at 4.5Ghz stable so with some trial and error you should get there.

Thanks for all your help guys. Seems the problem was the voltage!

After making sure it was using 1.6V I haven't had any problems running both sticks of ram :)

Great news! If you didn't take my advice it's still worth having one of those bootdisks in your tool kit and collection of disks for the system.

Kudos to decto...bang on fella good work. There is no substitute for practical experience :)
